it is easier to start with a small orange tree from a garden nursery, but you could start with an orange seed.

Either way, it needs lots of sun. And it should not go through a cold winter ( a freeze) because it won't survive unless you take GREAT care to protect it.

If you get a dwarf orange tree, you could bring it in during the winter.

First question is do you live somewhere that you CAN grow an orange tree? Unless you're somewhere warm year round like FL or CA there isn't much point.

go to a nursery. buy some rooting hormone. then walk over to where they have the citrus and snip off a small piece of an orange tree. follow the directions on the bottle of rooting hormone. once it gets big, mulch and water the heck out of it. root system: wide and shallow.
