I am looking for the cheapest way to cover the ground that will last a long time and be practical for kids to play on. I am very handy and can install something myself. I have 2 plum trees that shed and can possibly ruin any surface that I put down.

I am putting in a sprinkler system with PVC pipe. The glued joints are fine, but the threaded joints leak, even though I cranked them very tight. Should I use teflon tape on the threaded joints? Or is there some other technique? The joints are upstream from the valves, so I really can't afford any leaks.
