Pain & Pain Management - December 2007

I have a very painful back injury with severe sciatica that just won't go away. I've been taking percocet and/or lortabs for the better part of the last 2 years. The last 3 weeks, I have barely been able to walk, and have been in the ER twice because the pain was unbearable, apparently physical therapy has done more harm than good. So, my doc recently put me on oxycontin & I'm still supposed to take lortabs for breakthrough pain. This is day 4. and the only real difference I notice is that I'm very constipated...sorry...TMI, just want some more info on oxy.

I hurt my back at work about 3 weeks ago. And of coarse they are putting me through the run around, trying not to pay for it. But that is only part of my problem.

I am having serious muscle spasms over the spine in the upper back. I went to the ER three times. As a result I got pain relievers and muscle relaxers. The pills they gave me just make me numb and are not helping. And in the mean time my work is being EXTREMELY difficult . I was wondering if anyone has has similar issues that have persisted for weeks and hasn't gotten better. This is taking a toll on me since I cannot work or walk for more then 10 minutes at a time. I also feel very weak all over and feel short on breath.

Anyone else have this issue or know how to help?

Also, I followed my doctors at the ER instructions: Heat/Ice, rest but not too much.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi. My question is, other then stress or problems with your eyes, why could you be getting headaches everyday?
Im 16 [almost 17] and for about 2 years now, Ive always had a headache. In the beginning I took advil, tylonal, ibeprof. but they never helped.
I've been to the doctor lately, and eye my eyes checked, and theyre fine. Ive also talked to my normal doctor and he put me on muscle relaxers. Though, these dont help either!
The headaches are getting worse lately. Theres more pain then usual. To the point I could just break down and cry. And even more recently theyve been making me sick to my stomach. So its hard to get through a normal school day.
Its definatly not stress because I meditate to get rid of it, and believe me it helps.
So does anyone out there have anything similar, or past experiences? PLEASE HELP!!!

I can always feel the back part of my head aching whenever i am under a strong sunlight.
It has been like this for a more than a year.
I suppose it is nothing too serious.
But I am just curious about it.
Can anyone tell me what it is about?
A link of where you find your sources will be useful. Thanks

I heard that you could stab someone in the brain and they would not feel it. Is that true? Does the brain not have nerves? From what I understand, you basically feel pain because of nerves.

My wife has daily disabling migraine attacks. She wakes up every day with a migraine.... some days are worse than others.... but she basically has no life, and things have been getting worse. We discovered some time back due to a routine dental procedure that Nitrous Oxide at the dentist's office eliminates her migraines for the rest of the day.

I'd like to know if it is even possible to get approved/certified or a prescription of this for home use to alleviate her horrible pain. She has been unable to work now for 5 years, has seen many doctors for the migraines... has been hospitalized for it, has had shots, preventatives, interventive drugs.... but there has been nothing that has really done much for her.

This is a really big deal and we are grasping at straws. Any help is appreciated.

What can I expect at my first Pain Management appt? It is actually called pain medicine(that's the name of the clinic). I have a bulging disk at L-4 L-5 and it hurts constantly! I am currently on Lortab 10 mg, 2 per day...I do need more per day because I sit at a desk at work all day and it only makes it worse. I'm afraid to ask at my first appointment because I don't want to be labeled as a seeker. I think 4 per day would do me GREAT justice, as that was the amount I was on prior to moving and changing docs. What do they normally do at your first appointment? Is an epidural something they do for first timers? I'm awfully scared of needles....I would love to try anything else but an epidural. Any suggestions and please tell me what to expect. Thanks

I was diagnosed with arthritis at 24. The doctor never even told me what kind, so I assume it's osteoarthritis (both hips and knees). When I started having symptoms at age 19, I was anything but overweight. I've no idea why I got it at such a young age. It has gotten worse in the recent past-almost unbearable at times. Heating pads don't help much, and I only have a shower-no tub. I used to exercise regularly, but lately, I haven't had the time. When I don't exercise, the pain gets severe. There are times, at night, when I literally cannot move without screaming. I'm wondering what over-the-counter meds really work best when it gets like that. I don't want to take both analgesics and NSAIDs at the same time, but I have. My dr. gave me Ultracet as well, but a limited amount, and no refills. I'm getting back into the exercise routine, but until I build some muscle around those joints again, I want to know others' experiences with otc pain pills. I also take Osteo Biflex regularly.

Okay, has anyone ever had a headache or migraine that was just pressure and no pain. Had brain surgery in Apr 07 to remove a cyst and never experienced one like this. I was in the hospital for 11 hours last night and all the tests they ran came back normal.

Started out as crushing pressure in head (felt like my head was in a vice and it felt like it was pushing down on my eyes). Once the pressure eased, it turned into a really bad headache. Once it was a headache, I felt hungover, extremely tired, extremities weak, and eyes very sensitive to bright lights.

Me - 16, female, healthy person
I have a lump on the back of my right hand/wrist which my mum says is a ganglion cyst.
It's about the size of a marble ... not painful unless pressure is applied .... not attatched to the skin.
If it is a ganglion do I need to see anyone...if its not what else could it be?
Thanks x

My foot makes cracking noises all the time and it is accompanied with pain? The cracking and pain comes from the middle part of the bottom of my foot. I would have seen an orthopedic doctor earlier (it has been 9 months now) but I had some 3 surgeries to fix a life threatening disease and have not had the time as of yet. I will be seeing a doctor soon but do any of you have an idea of what this could be?

When you develop a halo migraine (which I was diagnosed with having on Sunday by and ER doctor) should you go back to the ER? I'm wondering if it ever happens again what I should do. I was the 'rare instance' where there was weakness or language and speech problems (my entire right side was numb and I slurred near incoherently). Do I go back to an ER or take extra Topamax they gave me as a daily preventative?

When I went to the doctor about my lower back pain this is what the doc said is wrong with it. I can't find much information about what it is and how to treat it. My doctor wanted me to go to a physical therapist but I don't have insurance so it would cost to much for me go to one. I need to know if there is any exercises that I can do on my own to help relieve the pain? Thanks.
