Injuries - February 2007

My daughter is in gymnastics and has just recently started competing. The palms of her hands are so sore and almost raw (for lack of a better term) from the uneven bars. She puts chalk on her hands before she practices, but they are still painful.

I've tried putting ointment on her palms and putting a bandage on at bedtime. It seems to help a little, but during the day nothing seems to work. Because of where the blisters/sores are, nothing stays in place long.

Any help you can offer would be fantastic! Thanks :)

and around two weeks ago, I slipped inside the bathroom and fractured my foot, and x ray showed two parts on the top of my foot to be slightly fractured, and till now it is still swollen on the physical. Is it advisable to stay away from the above mentioned food while the foot is in the healing process?

I have been getting apthous ulcers for about 2 years. I would get thm about every 4-6 months. I have now been getting them about every 2 weeks since the beginning of January. They are so painful which makes it very difficult to eat! Please help!

my 17 year old sister was in a bad car accident thursday and medivac to a trama 1 hospital, she has 3 small brain bleed and one deep bleed, she is unconsious at this time but still has brain activity, she was able to have surgury to have her two broken femurs put back together, I was just curios to see if anyone else has gone through this themselves or are a close family member gone thorugh this, to help me through this. The doctors have given her a good chance of recovey. Please no negative comments this accident was an accident my sisters boy friend car hit an icepatch.

My surfboard hit me in the face about 3 weeks ago and it swelled up. I never iced it or anything. I figured the swelling would go away on its own. However, it has not gone down and know i have a big knot it my face. I don't know if i should ice it, rub it, or apply heat. please help. i don't want a big knot in my face my entire life. thank you.

Last night some friends and I were sliding down this icy hill [because we had some nice wintry weather lately] and when I was climbing back up my friend pushed me and I fell pretty hard. I cut my hands open a little bit, but no big deal. The problem is, whenever I bend my wrists at all, my hands start shaking really badly. Anyone have any idea why this might be?

I fell on the ice on Thursday it is red/ pink, bruised, hurts when walk on it and bend it, swollen. Is my friend correct that it is a muscles strain? If it is or not tell me and what I should do. I can't go to the hospital, can't go to the doctors, and can't get a x-ray. Also I have gym on b days at school. Medicne won't work on my leg so what do I do?

Okay, right in the middle of my foot it hurts like crap. Also the other day my to middle toes were killing me!! What exactly do you (not a doctor or expert) think It is? What muscle is it? What do you think I could do at (and school)? ~~~walk with crutches?~~

I hit my shin at work on January 1st. It bruised very badly. Still today, almost two months later, it is discolored and there is about a quarter-sized lump on it. It is somewhat painful to touch. What do you think is wrong with it? Thanks.

I have been told it is a form of Keratitis? I don't have pain much only once in a while I'll have a sharp pain not often. My eye that is bothering me the most that day waters but not all the time. It takes me a hour in the morning to clear my eyes some. It never goes away just gets worse some days. I'm losing my eye sight! This can't be because I'm 50? I Had good eyes up until I was exposed to microtoxins, do you think that could be something to look at?

I broke my ankle three weeks ago. When I first got the cast put on the swelling went down immediately and the pain went away as well. One week ago I fell on my broke ankle and knocked my foot out of alignment and had to get a new cast put on. There were xrays done and no bones moved. Ever since the new cast, my foot swells worse everyday and my foot is purple. Also, the pain is excrutiating and feels like I just rebroke my bone. I went back to the doctor and he said I wasn't elevating it enough. I elevate it all day at work and then when I get home again. Is it normal for pain and swelling three weeks into the healing process or could something else be wrong?

Hi, about 4 years ago I was playing football with a few friends and one of them landed knee first on my sternum, he was about 180lbs. Upon impact I felt no pain what so ever however I did notice that certain body movements caused me to feel pressure directly in the center of my sternum. I didnt put 2 n 2 together back then but just recently have. The pain/pressure has not increased but is still noticable. I was wondering if I should be concerned with this problem. I was thinking about having an x-ray done to see if I have any damage there. And if serious would It be fixable?

I'm at work and was playing around with my two buddies. I was wearing an oversized coat, so one of them tied the arms in front of me. Then the other friend found a zip tie and tied my legs together. This was all fun and games, we were laughing so hard. I was wriggling my way to the door to get some scissors, and one friend decided to help me out. He was going to pick me up. Well he went to get me and drape me over his shoulder- I wasnt ready and I freaked out, I went head first into the corner of the wall, and then hit it again on the concrete floor. Im not bleeding..and the side of my body hurts- as well as my head- but its not agonizing pain.
Should I go to a doctor?

Hi. i just fractured my leg and being Asian and Chinese. My Mum forbids me from drinking anything cold other than milk. She says it have something to do with the healing and may cause problems in the future. I don't know whether this is true as my doctor in the hospital says that its ok to drink anything i want. BUt my mum just doesn't allow it. Does anyone of you have any experience on this matter? Thanks

A couple of days ago my friend and I decided to go sleding late at night but since the snow had turned to ice we went sleding VERY fast. We thought we were going to hit a tree so i put my hand down but it got caught in someones footprint in the snow and bent. My finger was not straight and it started to swell up about 20 min. after the accident and hurt REALLY bad. So i taped my pointer finger to it(since it was my middle finger) and let it be . Now, 2 days later, its still a little swollen,stif, and my whole finger and the part under your finger is still buised. How long is it going to take to heal? Is it a sprain?

see my tounge is i think longer than a normal tounge and i have the problem when i eat or anything i bite it and i got sharp teeth so it isnt the best but how can i prevent bitting tounge and how can i cure previous bite marks.
