I hit my shin at work on January 1st. It bruised very badly. Still today, almost two months later, it is discolored and there is about a quarter-sized lump on it. It is somewhat painful to touch. What do you think is wrong with it? Thanks.

there's not a whole lot of padding on the shin area. if you're on your feet a lot, that won't help speed healing time, either. probably nothing wrong with it, try icing it for a while, just not more than twenty minutes a day. leaving ice on it for longer than that won't make it more effective in bringing down swelling or relieving pain, but can actually cause damage to the dermis if left on too long. i'd be more worried if the lump and bruising were still there in another 2 months.

I have the same thing. It's just that there is very little between your shin bone and the surface of our skin to absorb the impact of a hard hit. So the bump / bruise will manifest fast and stay a long time.

Mine was bumped on the tub 3 months ago and is just now feeling better and the bump is down to normal.
Same happens with a hard hit to the head.

Sounds like a hematoma. It's not serious and not it's not uncommon for them to stick around for a while. Eventually the blood that is clotted under your skin will be reabsorped and it will go away.

You have a dry blood clot under your skin aka hemarthiosis. You may need to have it removed. I suggest that you see a doctor.
