General Health Care - July 2006

I am currently taking PREVACID for my heartburn and acid indegestion and its NOT helping. I am nauseas like 70 % of the day ;( I want to try a NEW medication that can help both problems, any one on these type of meds that works good for them?

or anyone on prevacid and have some stories of wisdom? thanks in advance!

I'm a fairly healthy 28 y/o female with maybe 15-20 lbs I should lose. But lately, although I seem to be losing a few pounds everywhere else my stomach actually seems to be growing! I'm starting to get irritated because I look pregnant and positively am not. Is this just because I'm getting closer to 30 and my metabollism is changing? Or some sort of deficiency maybe? Please help!

Last night, my almost 2 year old brother had a minor fever and went to bed early. My mom got up with him in the morning, and suddenly, his body went stiff and rigid and his legs and arms were twitching, and he was screaming really loud. This happened about 3 times, and has never happened in the past when he had a fever. My mom thought it was a seizure, and took him into the emergency room. The doctor, however, claims we would have been unconsious if it had been a seizure, and claims he had a "startle reflex." I find this hard to believe, but I was wondering if anyone out here would have an insight for me of what it could be. The doctors claim its virus and nothing serious, but hes never done this before!
Can anyone help me?

my lip is randomly swelling up..it keeps getting bigger the past couple days..ive had scar tissue under my lip for a yr mayb now..but a couple days ago it started to like get bigger..i dont knon if the scar tissue is forming more..or is its a mucocele or w/e..theres a random build up in it and something that looks like a cankersore in the middle of it..can anybody help me?

I cut my thumb a month ago - on the palm side directly inbetween where it leaves my hand and the middle thumb joint. In the ER they examined it and said the tendon appeared intact and strenght was good - i was given five stitches and sent home. A month later I am still only able to bend my thumb about 45 degrees, and the space where it was injured is really puffy. My thumb just seems bigger than the other. It doesn't flex when i relax my hand.

I'm just wondering how long it is going to take for my thumb to return to normal? And if I should wait, or see a specialist about it now (which i'm trying to avoid). Advice from medical professionals would be appreciated. Thanks.

After I eat (this could be anything from things solid to soft foods, and any amount) I get pains on the left side of my stomach. Sometimes its just an ache, at other times it so bad I can't move for a few minutes. Its usually in the front. At times it makes my back hurt. And on the occations that it is really painful, it also moves down and in the back. My health insurance wont kick in for 2 or 3 more weeks and I have been having this problem for a few months now. I just want to know if anyone might have an idea as to what it could be and if I should go to the hospital or not.

how old does a child need to be b4 useing ear drops to help clean her ears out? my daughter is 33 months old (almost 3 yrs old). I use Q-tips to clean her ears out, whenever i remember to clean her ears! but i was thinking about getting some ear drops to help clean her ears out, since i forget to clean her ears out alot! i wouldn't use the drops everyday or anything, just when i think it would be necessary!?

I'm going in to have my impacted wisdom teeth taken out soon and I'm going under full anesthesia. I've never been anesthetized before so I'm a little apprehensive about the experience. Can anyone share their experience with general anesthesia (gas or IV)? How does it feel as you're actually going under?

Why is it that Dr's and Nurses swear by tylenol for almost every kind of pain? I understand that it does work for SOME people. Is there anyway I can talk to my DR and convey to him that it just doesnt work for me? Acetominophen makes me sick, and they just wont listen . Are there any specific ways to talk to DR.'s to get them to listen?

I live in Egypt. My 3 year old son just had an ear bleeding yesterday. I brought him to the doctor and he advice me not to use cotton bud as he said they already band from using cotton buds in America.

Is it true? If it is true, then how should we clean the ear wax?
I used to clean his ears with cotton buds everyday and I think yesterday I might have push it a little bit hard. But thank god it did not touch his ear drum. It just the outer part.

I had my thyroid taken out about 15 years ago and have never taken my medicine right ( synthroid ). I just want to know if it can hurt me cause I have been feeling poorly and I can't lose the weight I am putting on. also It seems like I'm getting dark circle under my eyes more and more.Also I'm tired all the time
I don't know if the above things has to do with my thyroid.
