Soak your toe in warm salt water. Cut a "V" in the toe nail. Clear away any skin that may be keeping the toe nail from growing out.

If it becomes painful and very red around the edge go see a doctor, it could be infected.

In the future don't cut your toe nails too close at the edge. cut them flat across leaving the edge room to grow without becoming ingrown..

You can fix this yourself. Get as thin a pair of tweezers you can find. Also get a small pair of cuticle sizzors. Cut as near to the edge of the ingrown portion as possible and tear the cut portion down toward the nail bed. Repeat until the ingrown nail is removed. It's so of like creating a hang nail, but on the nail and not the skin. Getting your nail removed is completely unnecessary.

You can also take a tiny piece of cotton ball, coat it with Neosporin (with pain reliever) and tuck it under the edge of the nail. This gets the nail out from the skin and relieves the pressure on the sore area of skin. It will also allow the sick to heal and you to cut the nail regrowth. Soaking your foot in epsom salts will also help with pain. Be sure to dry throughly with a blow dryer after.

my dad (general surgeon) used to instruct us to take small pieces of cotton and, very carefully, push them underneath the nail, in between the skin that is inflamed and the sharp piece of nail that is irritating the nail. you can use some topical anesthetic beforehand which may help with the pain. if you can put enough cotton underneath there the nail will not be irritating the flesh; this will allow it to heal. good luck in surgery. be sure to do pre-op scrub-down!

Try to pry it out by starting at the middle of your nail and working towards the part that's ingrown. It hurts, but saves the doctor's bill

Maintainance is the key! I hope you are not picking yur toenails!
Cutting the toenail straight across is the way to go! My son had to have his done, and after one doctor visit he decided to take better care of his feet. He did so well I started taking him for pedicures which he loved! Good luck and eat more peanut butter!
