A few antibiotics react badly with alcohol and will be labelled saying this. Metronidazole is one of these. You will feel sick if you drink while taking these.
Most antibiotics are metabolised in the liver. The liver also metabolises alcohol. One or two drinks will not make a difference after the first 24 to 48 hours of taking antibiotics but more than this will reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotics because they will be metabolised faster and the levels in your body may not be high enough to deal with the infection for which they have been prescribed.

It's not advisable. Chances are it wont do you any harm, but it will probably stop the antibiotics working to their full capacity. Given that you don't want to be taking antibiotics more often than you have to, I'd recommend you don't drink until the course of tablets is finished. It's only a week or so, surely your health is more important?

I have been told by doctors, that if you are on a course of antibiotics, it is unwise to take alchol as it lowers the healing rate of what ever it is that's wrong with you. But you know that don't you, Brian

as many antibiotics are metabolised through the liver drinking (which is also metabolised through the liver) may slow down the effectiveness of antibiotics or minimise their effects, so its your choice. However METRONIDAZOLE/FLAGYL can not be taken with drink, it will cause you to be violently sick. The tablets should be stopped 48 hrs before drinking. This particular antibiotic used to be given to recovering alcoholics to deter them from drinking

Totally with no problem just ignore the warning on the label. And for a more interesting night wash them down with 32 paracetamol and 2 bottle of cough syrup!

You shouldn't. Alcohol makes the antibiotic less effective.

I don't know if it would have an effect on your health, but I have heard it will reduce the effect of the antibiotic.

really not a good idea, I was on antibiotics and I drunk on them and I was sick! and the next day I felt so bad! and I am one of the lucky ones not to get a hangover the next day so I know it was down to them. So I wouldn't recommend it :)
