I take about 6 - 8mgs of Warfarin a day following my aortic valve replacement surgery. I have been told not to have more than two small glasses of wine at any one time. Needless to say, this isn't always easy to live with - especially at summer barbeques. What would happen if I exceeded this allowance? How hazardous would it be to my health? We only really ever drink at weekends but I could easily manage a whole bottle by myself over the course of an evening.

My brother had a heart attack. He's still young. The doctor said that part of his heartwall is damage. I wonder if the damaged is permanent. Before his heart attack he complaint of a chest pain and he had ECG test and to my surprise the result of the ECG is good and normal they were not able to pick then up and after a fews months later he had a heart attack. I just want a bit more explanation.

I am in my 20's, slightly underweight. I eat a balanced diet (high in fish and veggies, low in red meats), but have very high cholesterol. I don't know if there is history of heart disease in my family and have no way to find out. Anyone have experience with this or know what could cause this? Everything has checked out okay at the doc, except the high chol. count.

my son has a congenial heart defect. he is now 16 months old. well tonight while eating he passed out. or at least that's what it seemed like to me. first i shook him gently then i lightly tapped his cheeks and that woke him. then just a few minutes later i took him to change his diaper and he passed out or fell asleep again. i have woken him every hour just to be sure and when he stay up everything seems noraml now. do you think the i am over reacting or could this be a sign that his heart is giving him trouble?

also if anyone knows what the normal heart and pule rate is for a child of 16 months i would really appreciate it. I had it in paper work and it is missing now.

I visited the doctor today because of an injury to my foot. It was found I sprained my ankle and was told I also had a Heart Murmur. Now I am a bit worried.I had been sick for 3 days prior to my ankle injury and was experienceing dizzyness
paleness, and shortness of breath. And I realized that these are some of the symptoms of a Heart Murmur, but did not know this while I was at the doctor. I also have asthma so I figured that was what was causing my symptoms. But I dont believe it is the asthma acting up, since I have had to use Abuterol more than four times this week. I didnt tell the doctor this, he is not my regular doctor. What test should I have done, I have had a Stress test, Heart Imaging test, and electrocardiogram two months ago, and they turned out to be normal. Should I be concerned about the doctors findings on the heart murmur.

Ok - quote from husband below. This is aboutt his brother. His mother had the same thing and said it WAS a "heart attack" --- so, if brother-in-law goes in with chest pains, is this a "literal" heart attack or a heart attack WAITING TO HAPPEN? It is important for me to know this:
"Had a cath last night. he had four blocked arteries. the main left coranary artery was 90% blocked and a major artery on the right side of the heart was 80% blocked. he was a major heart attack waiting to happen. I guess he is going to have some sort of scan on his thyroid today." AND IS IT HEREDITARY? That part worries me some. His brother is only a year older.
I am not worried or anything (about him) so don't worry about your answers. He's a horrible person (for real). BUT I want to know if this would be considered a "heart attack" because that is what my mother-in-law said SHE had with same stuff going on.

My boss is 23 today... on Monday, he went to the ER because he kicked a board... and the right side of his body became numb... he also lost his speach. Later that evening he got released... they told him that he had dehydration... Today, I got a call from his dad saying that he was going to the ER again. I asked why... he said that the same thing was happening, just on the opposite side. I am not too sure, but it sounds like a series of strokes to me... I have never heard of severe dehydration doing that to someone... and I have been to the hospital for dehydration myself.

I guess my question is what are the symptoms of a stroke... and is it possible for dehydration no matter how sever it is to do this to a person?
