Coarctation of the Aorta is a narrowing of the major artery that delivers oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. The aorta comes out of the top of the heart and then curves sharply to head down to the pelvis where it bifurcates (becomes two arteries) and supplies blood to each leg. Where the aorta curves sharply, it is sometimes narrowed. This is usually congenital (from birth) and quite repairable. If not repaired, the person will tire easily and may have an enlarged heart.

Coarctation of the aorta occurs when the aorta is abnormally constricted just inferior to the ductus arteriosis, in which case an adequate collateral circulation develps before birth.

Coarctation of Aorta is constriction of Aorta. It is compensated by collateral circulation specially the intercostal arteries which are seen pulsating on the back.It can cause syncopial attacks in erect posture, and is cured by Aortoplaty(surgery).

may it s coarctation of aorta i.e abnormal narrowing of aorta it s
a serious condition usually associated with hypertension
narrowing of the lumen may occur proximal or distal to origin of left subclavian producing radio radial delay , differential cyanosis, suprasternal pulsations

coarctation of the aorta is the narrowing of the aorta, so the heart is unable to deliver and receive proper blood supply...it is found in Turner's syndrome commonly...which is a genetic disease that affects females that are born as XO...so they lack one X chromosome..they are described as having a short webbed necks, infertile, mildly retarded...
they are 2 types of coarctations: preductal and postductal, preductal is infantile, meaning it affects babies, postductal affects adults...they are just descriptions of where the narrowing occurs in reference to the anatomical position of the duct...
