Yes, since your liver makes cholesterol while you are sleeping. Statins lower your cholesterol by reducing your liver's ability to make cholesterol.

The only statin that you can take any time of the day is atorvastatin (Lipitor) since it stays around your body for a longer period of time than other statins.

We give all of the statins at nite in the hospital where I work. I think it is because you have an empty stomach for a long time.

I take Zocor (Simvastatin), and my doctor told me to take it at night. I don't know what the difference is because I take 9 pills in the morning and my nerve pill and my Zocor at night. I guess they know why.

I went to drugs.com and I looked up Zocor, and you can find this under Simvastatin too.

There are a consumer listing (cons), and a doctor's information (pro). The doctor's section shows the chemical makeup and a lot of information that the consumer wouldn't understand.

For the greatest effect, simvastatin is usually taken at bedtime or with an evening meal. Follow your doctor's instructions.

I cut and pasted that directly from drugs.com
