Damaged heart wall tissue can't grow back or be cured. It is quite possible to have a normal ECG one day, and have a heart attack the next. An ECG can't predict heart attacks. A stress test, or a heart cath might have shown the possibility of a future heart attack. If you want to know how much heart damage your brother sustained, find out what his ejection fraction is. That is a number that tells how much blood is pumped out of the left ventricle with each beat. It his EF is between 50-75%, he didn't have major damage. If his EF is less than 30%, he had a lot of damage. For more information, check out the American Heart Associations website. They have great explanations and illustrations that are easy to understand.

Everybody is different, but it sure sounds that there is permenant damage to me. If he has a good heart doctor, he'll make sure he's on the proper medication. Help him with his meds. Make sure he is taking his medication properly and getting the occasional check-ups he will require. Sometimes the doctor just has to guess that he is following his directions. He could have a massive heart attack without much warning at all.

the damage is permanent. but thank to his age he is able to keep himself alive for long long time. he needs to generally know about the patency of his heart's vessels by having regular visits to a good cardiology care. he needs to take his medicine permanently. control over his blood pressure and keep the cholestrol level low (LDL mainly). his diet and exercise is very important. need to follow the instructions very tightly. no cigarette smoking at all. i don't know about the doctor's decisions on his case but he might need angioplasty to keep the heart's vessels patent. i hope this can be of some help and i know that you love your brother! good family! congrats! good luck
