I was wondering if you could prevent Diabetes from simply avoiding refined sugars and eating gluten free stuff and basically eating fairly healthy? I know the benefits of regular exercise but I also know you can loose weight by just eating healthy and gradually restricting fat and calories.

So, weight issues aside, exercise aside, can you avoid diabetes by simply adjusting your diet to a low sugar (low refined sugars) and increasing fruits and veggies and just overall eating in a more healthy way?

My dad was just diagnosed with diabetes type 2. It took all we had to convince him just to take the medication prescribed, so I would like to get as much information and recipes sent to him by mail, since he doesn't use email.

I got worried and took her to the ER they said it was fine and she probably had a virus. I had to take her the next again because she fainted on me again the other doctor said hypoglycemia. Her sugar levels were 62 and it runs in her dads side of the family. They would not give me a glucose meter for her.So she fainted again this time I took her to urgent care peds. that doctor said 62 was'nt low and not to worry.Once again I still did'nt get a glucose monitor. What should I do.She still is getting dizzy, sweaty, and has bad mood swings.

I think I am developing diabetes. I'm 33, overweight, and it runs in my family. Lately I have been having tingling in my feet and I know I have blood-sugar induced mood swings. I'm really scared, and I would like some words of advice from people who have been through this. I need to call my doc, I'm just looking for a good way to broach the subject. Do I call and make an appointment and just tell them I think I am diabetic? Any real encouragemant would be great.
