blood sugar levels can definitely affect a person's personality. But I would be more concerned about the potential for transient ischemic attacks. (mini strokes) The fact that she doesn't remember her behavior would indicate a neurological issue, and at her age with a diagnosis of diabetes she is at high risk for stroke.

I'm more inclined to believe that low blood sugar (hypoglecemia) will result in irritability sooner than high blood sugar. Also, low blood sugar will cause you to say and do things you don't remember later. I'm guessing by a rise in diabetes, you mean blood sugar levels. Maybe you're referring to just a more extreme case. Either way, diabetes can create problems.

Low blood sugar levels can cause mental instabilities, including anger and memory problems. You should have her sugar levels checked out, and if they are continually low, her doctor should be able to correct the situation with a change in her medications.

Unfortunatley, it is also possible that the behavior is unrelated to the diabetes, and will therefore be much harder to treat.

Either way, you should try to convince her to see her doctor and ask if you can go with her and explain your concerns to him.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Read here https://tr.im/axLWC
Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

Monitor her as close as you can. This is a sign of dipping below normal sugar levels. If this occurs much, she could go into a diabetic coma. Take your mom to the dr. and discuss these issues, before something bad happens.

Blood sugars that are either too high or too low can cause a person to be mean. When she acts like a crab, check her blood sugar. If it's out of wack, that could be your answer.

Blood sugar messes with your emotions and sometimes it comes on fast. The rise and fall of blood sugar is tricky.
