My dad was just diagnosed with diabetes type 2. It took all we had to convince him just to take the medication prescribed, so I would like to get as much information and recipes sent to him by mail, since he doesn't use email.

The single best thing you can do for him is educate him on the disease. It doesn't have to be a miserable death sentence. In fact, I've turned mine around and made it my goal to live as long and healthy as I can. Here are two links that I hope you'll check out. This first is a book that I consider a must have... it's only $10.00 and should be on every diabetic's reading table:

And my informative little site:

allrecipies.com is the best place on the web for recipes! My dad got type 2 diabetes when I was 5. If it is in the family then remember you wont get it but your kids will. their is lots of good food and desserts that are sugar free expecially in the recent years.... just start getting everything diet and no pastas and breads, and when you do have those eat wheat. their is wheat pastas too.

i have been a diabetic for 33 years... i make a great cheesecake..... get the fat free cottage cheese... add sugar free jello (any flavor) 1.5 cups of water for the jello, and put in the blender. Coolwhip has sugar free now... that is a good add to the blender toooo. pour onto a wheat germ or sugar free cookie crust (just smash some cookies and put in the pie plate) and refrig..... this is very tasty! good luck!

Check out http://www.diabetes.about.com as well as http://www.diabetes.org (if that doesn't work type American Diabetes Association in to the search engine).

Another site that is really good is one called dlife.com (this site goes along with the tv program that runs on CNBC on Sunday nites in many areas of the U.S., if you are in the U.S.) The exact site is: http://www.dlife.com

Also check out: http://www.bd.com/
