Yes... and dogs have even been known to be able to sense a human's sickness... a few years ago it was determined that some dogs could detect several forms of human cancer by scent... dogs have an uncanny ability to sense things we cannot !!!

Dogs are amazing and can sense many things, in fact some dogs are trained to sniff out patients with cancer! So your dog could well have had knowledge of his death. My own cat had diabetes and we were told that sometimes cats with diabetes can correct themselves - which she seemed to do after a bout with insulin and tablets. However it finally got her and she passed away a year ago now.

But with dogs they tend to have it more like humans do and it affects them in similar ways, so if your dog was suffering then I'm sure you can rest in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering - although you will of course always miss him

I'm sorry you lost your dog this way. I lost my Yorkie with the same thing 4 years ago, he had diabetes and a pancreatic tumour. He survived only 9 weeks after his condition was diagnosed. I miss him still. I dont know whether they sense they are coming to an end, but we know when they are on the downward slope and it's very sad but we can only do our best. Best wishes to you.

Yes I believe dogs can sense it. Just like humans dogs can tell when other animals or humans are sick. I think a dog knows when its going to die because or there actions. They lay around alot more, they dont have as much energy, and they become very loving.

why are you posting in the health section? Do you think we can actually read the minds of animals?

In answer to your question...possibly. Human's know when they're going to die (if it's over a long period of time), and some animals (such as cats) run away when they sense something is wrong.

My father inlaws dog was choking on a piece of turkey and he ran away from everybody and choked to death. It almost seemed he knew it was over.

Yes, I think most animals do, and usually try to find somewhere quiet and undisturbed.
