I take glucophage and was wondering how long past the expiration date you can keep on taking it and it will still be effective? I have extra and don't want it to go to waste if possible. Thanx

I take a prescription for allergies everyday and my sugar levels as a diabetic seem to be elevating? Could it be the allergy medication doing this?

My son is 10 and quite overweight.
(Yep, I know that's a bad thing. No, we aren't junk food junkies. Yes, we need to increase our family's activity level and we are working on that.)
He has gained 11 pounds in 2 months (approx a 10% increase)! Took him to doc for check up. Kid is also tired. No other obvious diabetes syptoms. Tested thyroid--OK. (Mine is low.)
I have heard of rapid weight gain being a symptom of diabetes, although it's unusual. I mentioned this concern to doc and that type 1 & gestational diabetes are in my family plus lots of type 2. He said that only weight loss rather than gain would be a sign & didn't test for diabetes. On the other hand, I think if I request it, he'll probably do a test.
Could this be diabetes? If so which test is preferrable for children for detecting even pre-diabetes?
Thanks in advance!

I've been told to take Glucophage pills. My doctor prescribed them. But I don't want to. If I drop my weight from 184 (now) to about 160 (over a period of about four months), and exercise hard every day, will my glucose readings after a 10-hour fast read within normal range? (It tests at about 150 mg/dl now each morning).

I have diabetes II and ate some cookies and lost almost all of today.
I won't be able to sleep for some time now.
Did you know about this?
Do you fall asleep after eating sugar?
Have you got diabetes and don't know it?
This should give you a clue if you eat sugar and then sleep your life away.

I was recently diagnosed with type two diabetes . I am taking a pill for it twice a day but having a terrible time .My docter did not tell me much . I am going to a support group in August but I am so depressed . I feel like my life is over . I can't eat anything I like and it feels like all I do is think about food and test my blood now . Are there any sweets or ice cream that I can eat ? If I eat one bagel or bowl of ice cream my sugar level goes sky high . I am sick of veggies . What should I do ?

that people who take it have an increased risk of cardiac issues? I have been taking a 4 mg dosage, once a day, for almost 4 yrs. My internist wants me to stay on it, saying that the benefits outweight the risks. Several co workers have been taken off this med (different doctors). I am concerned because I have been very overweight in the past (still am, but less so) and have a strong family history of heart disease. Any comments or personal experiences would be appreciated.

My blood was drawn at 4:oopm and I hadn't eaten anything other than sugary, creamy coffee all day (about 4 cups). When I got to the Dr. office I was starving so I raided their candy jar and ate appx. 10-12 pieces of hard candy in the hour before my blood was drawn. My blood sugar was 154. The medical asst. thought that the candy would not have caused such a result. Any thoughts? I am going in for a glucose tolerance test this week to confirm. But could that candy and coffee cause a 154 glucose result?
