GFR is the glomerular filtration rate. Evaluates kidney function.

The non AFR AM refers to the normal values for non-African Americans. Normal is different for African Americans.

Little 'e' GFR stands for ESTIMATED glomerular filtration rate. There are several different formula to estimate GFR using age, sex, and serum creatinine. The actual test requires collection of 24 hours of urine output which makes the estimate rather popular. It is usually reported as ml/min/1.73m2 or millimeters per minute per 1.73 meters squared of body surface area. Just as the GFR must be adjusted for sex, it must be adjusted for ethnic origin. Thus the comment that the eGFR in question was for a non African American.
