I take glucophage and was wondering how long past the expiration date you can keep on taking it and it will still be effective? I have extra and don't want it to go to waste if possible. Thanx

Studies have been done to determine how long after the expiration date a medication remains 'good' - meaning that it has not declined in potency nor become impure. For medications kept in the moist environment of the bathroom it is best to stick to the expiration date - and best to move them. For medications stored elsewhere - such as a kitchen cabinet - they remain perfectly fine for up to 5 years. No study has been carried out past 5 years.

I agree that you should talk to a pharmacist to see if there is any danger to using outdated glucophage.

If they say that it will simply lose efficacy, then you could continue to use it as long as it seems to be working for you. But do check first.

there's an expiration date for a reason. Call a pharmacist.
