my neice had a reaction to rocephin once and was later given the same antibiotic iv again that immediately resulted in seizures and was later that evening diagnosed as brain dead with severe catatrosphic damage to her brain. One physician said he did not think rocephin caused the stroke. She was a sickle cell patient.

My daughter was prescribed augmentin. She is 20 months old so she was prescribed the liquid form. When I got it, I noticed it was very thick. I gave her 4 doses (2 days worth). Starting a couple of hours after the first dose she began getting diarrhea real bad and complaining of a bellyache. A couple of hours later she began running a fever. I called the doctor and he changed her antibiotic.
I went ahead and measured what was left of the augmentin because I knew it didn't look right-I should not have given it to her in the first place. The bottle should have had 15 tsp in it. Since I had given her 4 dosages of 3/4 tsp, there should have been 12 tsp left in it. However, upon measuring it, there was only 9 tsp. That means that the pharmacist (or assistant?) did not put enough water in with the medicine. They have to add the water to the bottle. That meant that the four doses I gave her were concentrated.
Should I contact a lawyer or call Walmart?

I hadn't been playing or exercising either. It happens about every other month. I'm retired, so it's nothing to do with periods. Nothing hurt, and I felt better after about 30 min. Then we went & ate, because we thought maybe that had something to do with it. I had eaten about 4 hours before this happened. Oh yeah, I saw my Dr. a few months ago & he tested my blood & found nothing wrong. Thanks.

I have recently found out in my adulthood that I have new allergies. i am allergic to pinenuts/walnuts and also have asthma attacks from certain fumes, like home cleaning products and sprays. I also get a numbness in my leg sometimes, that is also new to me and I haven't gotten it checked out yet. Could these things be a concern for getting General Anesthesia for gall bladder surgery?

I bought a home blood pressure monitor recently, after my blood pressure was found to be slightly high. I'm finding that there's quite a difference between morning and evening readings. Is this normal?

This is after 12 hours of fasting. I am 35 years old and slightly overweight (need to lose 20 pounds and working on it). There is no history of diabetes on either side of my family. I take Dilantin 100 mg twice daily; Synthroid 0.25 mg daily; and Nexium 40 mg daily. One thing, though: me and my dad's side of the family love to eat candy such as Red Hots and Bit-O-Honey. I am on Weight Watchers, but I work such candy in every single day. Maybe my pancreas produces too much insulin in response to eating sweets? Every other medical problem has been ruled out. Also, recently, I had a random blood sugar done right after I ate pancakes with syrup and orange juice, and my blood sugar was only in the lower 90s.

I just had myself tested for diabetes two weeks ago, and my Doctor sent my blood off to a lab to be examined. I had high blood sugar at the time of testing, so it worried him, but my urine was ok. When the results arrived, he said I didn't have diabetes, but I should check myself once a week...which didn't make any sense if I don't have it.

But everytime I drink a dr.pepper, which is three times a day, I feel alittle restless. I also feel anxiety at the same time. My calves feel alittle numb. I don't have any of the major symptoms, though..and that feeling always goes away. It only happens when I drink my first dr.pepper for the day.

I use to drink about 6-8 of them a day too, so I go to the bathroom alot, lol. But could someone explains some things to me?

I had a mole removed about 4 months ago and theres a un noticeable scar to people(noticeable to me) and I want to make sure if it will fade my scar away. My mom has used it when she removed her mole on her nose and there is practically no scar left after using Vitamin E.

7 New Cases of 'Popcorn Workers Lung'
Workers in Flavor-Manufacturing Plants Affected by Lung Disease
By Miranda Hitti
WebMD Medical NewsReviewed by Louise Chang, MDApril 26, 2007 -- The CDC reports seven cases of a potentially deadly lung disease known as "popcorn workers lung" at four California flavor factories.

The disease, bronchiolitis obliterans, is a rare and life-threatening form of fixed obstructive lung disease, says the CDC. Obstructive lung disease makes it difficult for air to flow out of the lungs. In fixed obstructive lung disease, this difficulty is not reversible.

The CDC reports no known risk to consumers.

"Food flavorings are designated 'generally recognized as safe' when approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; flavorings are not known to put consumers at risk for lung disease," states the CDC.

The CDC describes the seven cases, which occurred between 2002 and 2006, in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Six of the seven affected workers handled chemicals including diacetyl when mixing flavorings. The seventh worker packaged powdered flavorings.

Insufficient ventilation at the factories and inadequate paper dust masks worn by six of the seven workers may have been an issue, according to the CDC's report.

Studies have shown that diacetyl is a lung hazard in animals. No limits have been set for safe occupational exposure to diacetyl and many other flavoring chemicals, notes the CDC.

The seven affected workers were all lifelong nonsmokers. One had had asthma as a child.

Their symptoms included cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath on exertion. Those symptoms began between one month and five years of working at the flavor factories.

The risk of occupational lung disease has previously been identified in the microwave popcorn industry, which has made improvements to address the problem, says the CDC.

The same occupational risk hasn't been established in other food-flavoring production workplaces, according to the CDC.
