As we know, HIV is a virus. How is that someone could have a belief that they are immune to a virus -- it couldn't happen to me.

That is is sensible as stating one cannot catch a cold virus.

Unfortunately, "emotions" become a catch all excuse for any behaviour. Everyone has control over their behaviour.

So no, I wouldn't understand or know about this.

However, please clarify how having emotions abdicates your responsibility for your actions.

Sex and sexual desire is the highest human emotion known to mankind. Outside of protecting a loved on, like a child, nothing gets us more quickly into a highly emotional state then sex. Once our brain starts turing that way and our endorphins kick in, it's all but impossible to stop. Sure we all know there is risk, but in the heat of the moment, we justify it to ourselves and go on with the act. For men, ever heard the term thinking with the small head? It's totally 100% true. For women, believe it or not, once they cross that line and get turned on, there is usually know stopping them. Also, for women sexual relatioships have a ton to do with trust. So when a woman has sex with you, she is essientally telling you, she trust you and does not believe you would do her harm. Even on a subconcious level. Truth be told, each and every one of us is at risk for HIV if we are sexually active. Period! The good thing is, outside sharing needles and unprotected anal sex, it is somewhat hard to catch. Not impossible, but more difficult. And if that fails, the treatments these days are very good and most infected today, who get proper care can expect to live a normal life. Not a life without challenges, but at least it is not a death senetence as it once was.

I'll tell you exactly why they put themselves at risk because it just happened to me a few days ago.
I saw this girl that I haven't seen in years, and she calls me and we got together. so we were drinking and stuff and I knew it was only a matter of time until it happened. but I had a box of condoms, but I didn't know where I put them, so we got drunk together and then when it was going to happen, I was too drunk to look for the condoms, so we did it, but the next day I regreted it. I don't think the thought afterwards is worth it at all. I wish it never happend because I worry if I contracted the aids infection, but I need to make sure , so now I have to see a doctor and get checked. I know everything is ok, but the thought of maybe having it bothers me a lot. so next time, I will know where my condoms are. for sure. no more without condoms. its just not worth it to me anymore.

They just think it couldnt happen to them. The problem is HIV is not written on anybody's face. The most beautiful people can have it, and don't even know it. HIV does not make a distinction in race, or rich or poor people, anybody could get it. That's the problem.

In this day and age, some people can still not know about condom usage. But I'd have to have denial is a bigger part of that.
