Why is it that disease and illness can't be conquered? With all the technology available and all the money spent on things that have no value, why can't there be a cure found to prevent the horrible illnesses that are prevalent in the world...?????

I don't understand exactly how chemo works. Will the tumors go away, shrink? Or will they remain but be no longer cancerous?

Someone in my family was just told she has to be seen by a neurosurgeon as soon as possible, but nonetheless every specialist is usually already heavily booked and cannot give an appointment any sooner than a month from the current date. I need to know if there is any way of convincing the specialist´s receptionist, or the specialist him or herself, that the case is urgent and should be looked into with the utmost urgency. Thanks.

I work with youth teaching them about HIV/AIDS and STD's, but one question they ask is why HIV is transmitted through needle sharing when HIV does not live outside the body... and exactly how much is needed to infect a person?

My mum is 64. She has breast cancer. May have had it for several months but believed she was dealing with it very well without the help of modern doctors (and without informing any family member neither).
Two weeks ago she has been told she has cancer. She was very confident. Her health has decreased very rapidly since then and she is now very weak (can hardly talk). Doctors have decided to keep her in hospital today and have confirmed it is a matter of a few weeks.
She had lots of projects and finds it difficult to leave now.
I believe she should know and be told that she does not have much time left, so that she can "close her life" and prepare. Would you agree with this? If not, why not?

I have a 1 year old daughter who had immunizations last Monday. She had 6 done at 1 time. Now, as of early yesterday morning, she has had a fever of 104 at times, irritable, diahrrea, and a few welts that almost resemble bug bites. The doctor seems not concerned. She is also pale and will only nurse, not eat or drink anything, and REALLY clingy. Any advice? I want to go to the ER

My sister has been fighting a C-dif infection for nearly six months now. She's been on all recommended anti-biotics and they have made her so sick that it's not possible for her to take them. At one point she got some sort of odd "roving" form of the infection that hit her joints one at a time, leaving her unable to walk on her own. VERY FRIGHTENING!

She's seeing a specialist who has told her if she still has it in a year, he will do something drastic. But at only 108 pounds, with continual diarrhea and unable to eat normally (or often, at all) I think it needs to be taken care of before then. She's really frustrated, since her quality of life has taken a dive...no trips, no fun, no NOTHING because visits to the bathroom and pain from this illness have taken over. Help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've just been to Greece and my two children and our friend's son all managed to pick up an ear infection. There were a number of children walking around our hotel grounds and pool area with cotton wool in their ears ie they also had ear infections.

Did my kids pick up an infection from being in the pool? Was it directly from unclean water or did water get lodged in their ears and this caused the infection? Could the fact that other children had ear infections and were in the water that my children caught it this way?

I have had a problem with psoriasis for 5 years. It is located on the base & sides of my nose and above my upper lip. I had been using my sister's corticosteriod medication, but that is no longer an option.

My main problem is the redness in this area; scaling is minimal and it doesn't itch.

I have tried vaseline, lotion, and a tar substance. The vaseline and lotion have minimal effect if any. And I have experimented with tar a couple times; each time my facial psoriasis is redder and sore. Does this mean it is working? Not working?

Is there a non-prescription treatment for my psoriasis, especially to get rid of the redness?
