Hi. Yes, there are alternatives and some are mentioned by others here. I guess the first question is why for you? Is it the expense? Possible side effects? Actual side effects? Interest in alternatives?
Increasing the amount of dietary fiber in the diet has been shown time and time again in clinical trials to help lower cholesterol (it can lower the bad and in many instances raise the good cholesterol). According to the National Institutes of Health's National Cholesterol Education Program dietary changes are supposed to be the FIRST line of treatment for elevated cholesterol. They recommend adding dietary fiber and plant sterols that mimic cholesterol in the body to get it down first. I NEVER see this happen in the hospital with the doctors I works with. I've only had one of them refer a patient to me but only after the patient couldn't tolerate the statin drugs. The typical fiber that can be bought at Walmart is basically potty powder and won't do much for cholesterol.
I hope this helps a little. Jeff the nurse in Nashville

Most of those on welfare aren't all there, usually due to drugs and alcohol. Drug testing them would be useless, since there are no facilities for treating poor people, all we'd be doing is confirming what we already know, people on welfare long term have fried brains. There is no new Cadillac for people on welfare, unless they are out-and-out criminals, and those aren't really the usual welfare recipient, those are criminals. You can buy candy and chips on food stamps, but food stamps aren't free, the recipient pays a minimal amount for the stamps, which of course aren't stamps any more. Food stamp cards are not for anything other than food. and if there are machines set to taking them, then report them. Certainly the person selling cards on food stamps is just as guilty of fraud as any other link in that chain. What makes someone a poor choice for caring for the elderly, who tend to be fragile and need more protection is that many welfare people are borderline mentally competent themselves. Its not a mounting problem, its an old problem, the thieves and criminals can't get jobs, aren't very bright and have fried their not too monumental intelligence long ago. Welfare is only a way to keep them from doing more crime in a wider area, but it was reformed nearly fifteen years ago, and it isn't the best way to go for anyone with a brain, after all, its only about ten to twelve thousand a year. No one wants to try and raise a family on that.

This occurs in 2 out of 3 people. The 3rd one just having no change. Was also told to stop eating so much white bread...bloat went down.

All that with 2 key changes to my life:

I lost weight and stopped eating chips and fast food. Eat more fish and try to walk or exercise a lot more like 5 times 30 minute walks per week minimum.
The Mall doesn't count contrary to women's opinion.
