Go to your doctor. All cold sores are a form of herpes. Usually Oral cold sores are HSV1 and genital cold sores are HSV2...USUALLY. Your doctor will prescribe you with something. Valtrex is now the most common Rx. The only thing is. HSV1(oral) can only be contacted mouth to mouth (sharing chapstick, lipstick, drinks etc with someone who has an outbreak. You can also get oral herpes by oral sex with someone who has an outbreak or is shedding the virus. You will always have cold sores, they aren't cureable,...but they are treatable. The topical medication that you get from the store will make it go away, but it will come back. One thing that triggers an outbreak is stress. If you start taking Valtrex, it wont elimiante your outbreaks but it does decrease the number tremendously. This is very contagious, so try not to kiss anyone or share any drinks...etc. Like Country girl said, try L-Lysine, it is a product that is used for herpes. It is just more commonly used for herpes of the eye.

Understanding Cold Sores -- Treatment
How Do I Know If I Have It?
To see if you have the virus, your doctor may simply examine the cold sore or may take a culture from it.
What Are the Treatments?
You can't cure a cold sore, but you can alleviate the pain it causes by avoiding spicy or acidic foods, applying ice, and using over-the-counter remedies. Look for medicines that contain numbing agents such as phenol and emollients to reduce cracking and soften scabs. Abreva is an over the counter topical remedy used to help speed healing and minimize pain from a cold sore.
If your cold sore is especially painful or irritating, your doctor may prescribe an anesthetic gel to alleviate pain or an antiviral oral medication to speed healing or prevent recurrence. The antiviral agents currently available for treatment include acyclovir, famciclovir and valcyclovir. These oral medications are more effective in treatment when started within the first 48 hours of the outbreak.
Cold sores can become complicated by a bacterial infection so it is also important to keep them clean by washing gently with soap and water as needed.
How Can I Prevent Them?
Wash your hands after touching a cold sore.
Don't rub your eyes after touching your cold sore; you could develop an ocular herpes infection, which may lead to blindness if left untreated.
Don't touch your genitals after touching your cold sore; you could develop genital herpes.
Replace your toothbrush.
Eat foods high in lysine, or take supplements.
Don't kiss someone who has a cold sore or use the same utensils, towels, or razors.
Use sunscreen to the face and lips before prolonged exposure to the sun.

Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes).
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

Try using L-Lysine tablets from Wal-Mart or Wal-Greens. They help keep cold sores away.
If you already have one, drink buttermilk. I CAN'T drink buttermilk, the thought makes me ill. I do, however, pour a little of the nasty stuff into a small glass and then dip a Q-tip into it and wipe it over the sore. It seems to help it dry up faster.

Yeah, they always hurt, I've had great luck with Abreva, but you have to put it on as soon as you feel the first sign of a cold sore.

Use this stuff known as Lip Medex by way of Blistex you'll discover it at any drugstore and it healed my concern. The only recommendation i have for you is should you rip the scab off then it might scar and come back looking worse so are trying the stuff first and if that dont work then are trying some heavy obligation stuff like Abreva =D
