Even if you are an alcoholic it is not the end of the World and you can recover. Best wishes.

you really don't qualify to be an alcoholic. Nobody wakes up one day and says "i think ill be an alcoholic". Its a gradual process and I really think we a predisposed to addiction and I also think it is definitely heredity. I am an alcoholic and have been sober for 22 years now and its always "one day at a time" for me, even after being in recovery for that long a time. So it doesn't matter how much or how little you drink, that has nothing to do with it. Its a question of "can you stop" or must you drink till you fall on your face. An alcoholic cant wait to drink, he/she drinks for all the wrong reasons such as family problems, being stressed out. We drink to forget. Don't get in the habit. If there is alcoholism in your family (as there was in mine) or if you or a family member are compulsive take care, you may be on your way to becoming an alcoholic. Good Luck

I guess it's not how much you drink, it's whether or not you get withdrawal symptoms if you were to stop drinking. Drinking everyday doesn't mean you're an alcoholic. If you need alcohol everyday to function, than yes, that's alcoholism. Also people on this board seem to think if people drink everyday they're automatic alcoholics. They're obviously uneducated about the rest of the world and how people in other countries drink with every meal and live longer, are thinner, and have less alcoholism rates than the US.

its not really how much you drink its when and where drinking in the morning ,at the office, drinking alcohol instead of water juice, binge drinking, one after another, drinking to hide problems , drinking to make an illness feel better, replacing meals with alcohol, driving and drinking, drinking to the point of being mean and abusive any of these qualify you to have a drinking problem

There is no minimum amount. You don't even have to drink daily to qualify. The test is in whether you can stop at any point in that day's intake, what alcohol does to you by way of personality change, lowering of your standards, etc. Whether you go out and get drunk even though you know you are most likely going to hate yourself in the morning, whether it affects your livelihood, your relationships with those who are most important to you, things like that.

There is no amount. It is if you drink often and have an inability to stop. If you feel like you need it or catch yourself craving it on a daily basis, there probably is a problem. Alcoholism is not a disease, it is a choice. Diseases are like cancers, etc. Someone doesn't choose to wake up and get cancer. But you can wake up and choose to drink.

I think it's the fact that you NEED to drink all EVERY day that qualifies you as a alcoholic!!!

Its not how much, it's just the fact that you drink every day. If you start feeling crappy because you are NOT drinking, and drinking makes you feel better, then you definately have a problem.

How much you drink has nothing to do with it. You are an alcoholic when alcohol causes problems in your life, work or relationships. Hence a problem with drink.
