Is this the case? Also, the former seems to be much smoother while the latter tends to clog. Of course, this could be an illusion. Anyone KNOW?

My 74 year old father (who is probably more healthy than I am) was recently diagnosed with HCV. I understand the disease was only first defined in 1994. My father had a galbladder surgery about 45 years ago and another surgery to remove a malignant melanoma about 25 years ago. Other than those two situations, he has had no seriously invasive procedures until a hip replacement just 4 months ago. He has little or no liver function issues at this time (based on blood work and an ultrasound of the liver - no biopsy was performed).
So, could HCV have been transmitted during the surgeries over two decades ago and sat dormant without any signs until recently? Or, what are the other most probably methods of transmission that may have occurred more frequently that may not have required in-hospital procedures / blood transfusion? His doctor explained that heterosexual sex is very low on the list and his wife is not infected.

I first started off with a little pain on my right side (where "lovehandles" would be) this has been happening for about 2 months and recently I get 'episodes' where my whole abdominen area would cramp up and hurt for about 15 minutes. But for the most part, I'm not hurting during the day. However, at night when I get the pains, I feel very nauseous and feel like I'm going to vomit (I haven't yet). I can hardly eat and when I do, i get full after a little.

I hope its not appendicitis because I heard that the whole abdominal area would be tender and hurting all day. My region only hurts on occasion, usually at night & after meals.

Can anyone help? Because I've gone to the doctors/emergency room 3 times in the past 3 weeks and they don't know whats wrong with me! I feel like vomiting at this moment.. but haven't yet.

She has had lots of stress, death of our mother as well as my dad's heart surgery. She went to 2 doctors who did CT scan (which was clear) and recommended MRI just to be sure. This added to her stress as she fears the worst.

she is extremely sensitive, takes a lots of stress and has hyperthyroidism as well.

I went to Washington D.C with my friends two weeks ago and I got bites on my lower back. I dismissed them as mosqito bites but eventually I developed large red bumps which itch. So I think they're spider bites...I haven't had any symptoms like fever or whatever. What should I do?

guys I'm getting pretty worried here and yes I have seen a doctor.. actually I've seen 2 doctors about this. A couple of weeks ago I started feeling dizzy with severe pain in my right ear. Anyways, the ear pain has pretty much gone away the past few days and the dizziness is pretty minimal now.. a lot less than what it was but something else has developed. I get pain on the top right side of my head and when i push on it and put pressure, it hurts. Any opinions.. could this be a tumor? If it was why would the ear pain and dizziness get better.. wouldn't the symptoms get worse? Serious answers only please. thanks guys

Typically at night, both of my legs, buttocks, back, arms, and shoulders itch like crazy. I scratch them, and then they swell up, and look like welts, or a big patch of swolleness... My stomach and chest never itch. This all started about 2 months ago. I constantly wash my sheets, clothes, etc. I am only 21 years old, and others have suggessted liver disease and that scares me to death. Could it just be allergies? Hives? I find this strange, but I was in the bahamas this past week, and I did not get any itching anywhere... However, the minute I got off the plane back in New York, I started itching again. Antihistamines help me, but I think that there should be a better method to cure this. Please help b/c this itching is really driving me crazy, I lose sleep over it, I just want it to go away.

Every day, especially at night, my body breaks out itching. Both legs, buttocks, back, feet, and shoulders.. I think it may be hives, but I am not sure. After scratching, I get swollen lines of the path in which I scratched, and then it swells like crazy. Goes away in about an hour... I have tried antihistamines, but they only give me temp. relief. This has been going on for about two months now. I constantly wash my sheets and covers, my clothes, and anything that can be washed. I don't know what this is, but it is driving me crazy.

I put on a newly washed T-shirt and swimming trunks. When I got in the pool, I noticed I was very itchy behind the knees. When I got out, there were red bumps all over my stomach, from my shoulder to above the elbows, on my chest, on my thighs, and there were thick ones behind my knees. I noticed that the bumps were only where I was wearing clothing (shirt and trunks). This has never happend to me before. I went swimming a few weeks ago, but no bumps. No one else who went in the pool had bumps. They went away completly after about 45 minutes. Am I allergic to chlorine?

My boyfriend has hernia and I have noticed that his breath has an odd smell. Almost of rot or something. It's bearable, but sometimes it very strong. I haven't said anything, cause I was hoping it would go away. He brushes and is very clean, so it doesn't make sense? Just curious, and will it go away?

I need expert advise, so if youre not an expert please don't respond, unless you've had the same problems. I have a daushter that is 1 month. She was diagnosed with GERD( acid reflux) when she was 2 weeks.Nothing stays down even after the rice cereal, she cries all night, and I just want her to be comfortable. The doctors keep perscribing her different medicines( Zantac, Axid, Reglan) but nothing seems to work for her. We're going to see a specialist but not soon enough. Her doctor said that we might have to do surgery, but before we do that I just need to know is there any other medicines we should try or is there anything else we can do to help her befor putting here through surgery because shes so young? Please e-mail me or contact me any way possible if you have any answers for me. I really need your help.

Thousands of people have sued the tobacco industry because their products caused cancer. My question is this: If the FDA approves the ingrediants in our foods and our foods are consumed daily by the public and these foods causes illnesses such as diabeties, obesity and cancer; then i'm curious why haven't consumers sued the government for this? If a person dies from diabeties complications, let's say type II (since that encompasses about 90 percent of diabeties today) wouldn't that in a sense be committing murder in an indirect passive way to the public? Keep in mind the tobacco industry, millions have died because of products this industry produces and it is approved as legal by the United States government. Those that have sued the tobacco industry, knew it was bad for them, they still sued and WON and even though we know sugar and other chemicals in our food are bad, they are consumed by the same people who may have less knowledge of nutrition yet still eat this approved food.
