this evening she seems to be in alot of pain and her finger nails are discolored and seem to be turning up.

She should be under the care of a physician. Shingles is a recurrence of the chickenpox virus. It remains dormant in the nerves for decades. It is painful, and extremely damaging if it goes into the eye -- she could loose her sight. So, scare her a little and get her in to see a physician

shingles are very very serious. A friend at work had them she ended up with a blood clot in her leg. she has been off of work since April. My husbands grandmother has just gotten over them to , it blinded her. So be care full please, I hope is being seen by a doctor. If not beg her to go asap!

Shingles are quite painful, I know because I've had them.

I agree with swan_silver 1929. She should be in contact with a physican and immediately.
