I know PETA and other organizations make lists available of products that are "vegan" or free or animal testing. If a person spends money on these products only, only buys animal free food, and essentially boycotts anything that's assciated with animal cruelty can a significant difference be made? How would a person figure out how their smart shopping is making a difference?

I HAD A HEALTH QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION WITH MINE.

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

HI, I really need some advice from you Vegans and Vegetarians out there! I bought two pot belly pigs from a breeder that are bred specially for being peoples pets about 6 months ago. But I am REALLY hungry right now and my wife and I are too lazy at the moment to go out for food. What is the best and most humane way to slaughter and eat these lovable and oh so cute piglets of mine?? Please be specific also. I have very little knowledge on how to butcher animals.

...and I've noticed that my belly's gotten flatter in the last 2 days or so. I haven't been eating fewer calories. Any vegetarians out there who have had this experience? If you became vegetarian as an adult, did you lose weight as a happy side effect?

From Varnasi to Vegetarianism By Jason Freitag
I had been back from India for about a week. My parents had invited my partner and I for a summer evening dinner. Cedar Grove is a mid- to upper middle-class suburb of New York City, about 15 miles to the west. The lawns are well-manicured, there are two cars in every driveway, and life seems to be as it should--the prototypical image of the American suburb. We were on the deck in the backyard. The gas grill was fixed up, and my father was the grill master. He lifted the grill cover, and the very familiar smell of chicken cooking over a fire wafted across the deck. I've smelled this smell hundreds of times before. This time, however, it had more of a resonance--I'd smelled this somewhere else, or in some other context. I could not immediately place it. The conversation continued for a few moments--so-and-so is getting married, so-and-so is late in arriving. In a gentle wave of recognition, it came to me. The smell of the chicken on the grill in Cedar Grove was exactly the same as the smell of the funeral pyres on the Ganges at Varanasi. As I began to reflect, it became clear just how much sense this made. THEY WERE BOTH BURNING FLESH.

Being vegetarian and having IBS makes it harder not to have gluten - I previously relied on bready foods until I got IBS. Had to cut them out and eating has become very hard. I used to love food but its become a nightmare.

For lunch I usually have salad or soup, which works. But breakfast is more difficult. All I crave is toast or a nice vegey fry up but I've been having all bran which is depressingly boring.

Anyone got any advice?

Are plants a lesser life form? Why do some people think that by eating them, they are saving the animals? One responded that some vegetarians will eat fruit that falls from trees because it's natural or something. Then, if I were to wait for it to die, and then eating it, will it be okay? No pain.

Another person was angry and called me some unnecessary names. I can understand because I was defensive when I was a vegetarian. The person said that animals are less important than plants, but aren't animals and plants all part of the ecosystem? Why would one be more important than the other? If all the animals were saved and all the plants were eaten up, what will happen? If more fruits and veggies are grown, wouldn't that strip the land of its nutrients? Were does fertilizer come from? Humans would raise cows just for poop and milk? Dump them after they die. I feel that's wasteful. Isn't there a compromise? I respect your choice. Don't get mad for no reason, we are civilized beings.
