Are plants a lesser life form? Why do some people think that by eating them, they are saving the animals? One responded that some vegetarians will eat fruit that falls from trees because it's natural or something. Then, if I were to wait for it to die, and then eating it, will it be okay? No pain.

Another person was angry and called me some unnecessary names. I can understand because I was defensive when I was a vegetarian. The person said that animals are less important than plants, but aren't animals and plants all part of the ecosystem? Why would one be more important than the other? If all the animals were saved and all the plants were eaten up, what will happen? If more fruits and veggies are grown, wouldn't that strip the land of its nutrients? Were does fertilizer come from? Humans would raise cows just for poop and milk? Dump them after they die. I feel that's wasteful. Isn't there a compromise? I respect your choice. Don't get mad for no reason, we are civilized beings.

think clear & step by step u would clear all doubts urself...
our ecosystem is designed in such a way that all are interlinked for suvival & for a balance in nature....
be it worms to fertile the soil or birds feeding on the worms..its nature which carefully balance all...until humans came on & imbalanced all....if in wild a species outgrown the other species by natures rule automatically balnce it..by feeding on it..or the over populated species perish on own due to lack of supply to match them....but in human species we over reproduce & nothing balnce that fact & then we go on without limit to exploit differnt ways to satisfied ourself....cutting forests to build our home...destroying natural wealth ..exploiting all the resources be it fuels or food...sanitary disregard leading to so many new ailments & diesases....harzardous waste add on....
as for eating or not eatin plants & animals aint the issue..if u eat animals u anyway eating indirectly more veggi..cause the animals u eat r all herbivorous...its not that we stop eating animals just cause one is inferior to other..its the fact that they too express just like us...if we know them sure they feel just as human wth lot more sense of love & respect & so much innocence..& the way humans treat them doesnt make sense..there hav been so many attempts to make slaughter less painful & traumatic but it fails cause of some believe that why go that extra pain ,cause any way helpless animals cant fight back ....so we stand against it..treat life like life not a toy..they feel the pain & animals too need respect for their scarifice that they make for us...would u hurt humans who cant fight u back? then why not go with humane conditions of life for the animals & humane killing...ater all they ae surviving us..cant we do the least....plants r like mother we cant survive without them..& as for pain in plants..its said they do feel fear & do grow good with love & care...so plants do feel too..but not in all respect same as animals & humans..but when a fruit is plucked its not that we kill plant...we take somepart of it..as they the food provider for all like a mother to all..& animals that one would eat has been reared all its life on plants..so why rear an animal if u wanna save the plants...the chair, the table, the house the pencil , many many more things all r taken frm plants , again ...can there be life without plants..so think.....plants can regenrate themselfs which none else can do...some food frm plants does ask for a killing of the plant...but we couldnt find another humane way to kill a plants other then uproot it..but is it same in animals case?
No way..& theres r so many humane ways to kill animals for food..but none looked into..the dieing animal live a life of misery screamin every moment in discomfort..if one cant see those bleeding helpless eyes..do they really care for the stand still ,speechless plants..its always been an excuse to guard one conscience so not to stop oneself frm eating flesh...one likes taste of it & go on with it..but u dont hav to put up with all those in humane slaughter houses...why do non-vege get on guard..they could as well say yes its inhumane & each on their own start a move where in they chk where is the best humane slaughter houses..& buy flesh frm there..& put a stop to inhumanity to animals....its not Q of whether one eats flesh or not..its the Q of moral respect of life..& animals do deserve it...if we use them....they r alive & moving & cant we least do is make life easier for them respect their sacrifice...the Q is can non-vege stand up & ask for a humane slaughter house or not...& its a thought that goes with it & evey single thought counts..none is asking for drastic changes..just the basic -thats respect our fellow species..we all depend on each other...& humans r made superior most to take care of all..& here we r with an over exploited planet...where every thing is listed scarce..we cant control over own poplutation with no rules laid down on it.....its just start of doom..i feel at times...wat will our next generation get? a forest in pics ,wild life in pics...& maybe soon all in dreams...the world aint wat it use to be..thanks to so much prejudice & lack of respect for each others feeling..why all on guard rather then try understanding each other..be it humans or animals or plants...
it just needs a sincere thought..& we can hav the answer..but does this world of today hav anytime..out of this madding rush for money ,status..& to look beyond inflated ego....
God bless all..if theres one existing

No need for anyone to be angry or critical of another's choice. But I am a vegetarian because I just can't bring myself to eat anything that once had a face...or a mother. I wasn't raised that way, it's my choice. And after a few months of eating only veggies and fruits, I felt so much better physically. I don't drink milk or eat cheese, either. My friends eat meat, though, and that's okay for them. You are really spending to much time thinking about this. Just eat whatever makes you happy and don't worry about it. I'll do the same. (Here's my secret - some days this little ol' vegetarian would consider hurting someone over dish of chocolate ice cream...) Take care, my friend.

You can feed 16 vegans on the land used to feed one meat eater. Animals clearly show pain when you hurt them. One can farm organically without poop. (There are plants that nourish the soil, crop rotation and letting the land lay fallow instead of tossing chemicals and poop on it and forcing it to make lots of a single crop). If people stop eating meat there won't be "all those animals eating up the plants" leaving us with nothing. Animals are forced to reproduce at the expense of their health until they are worthless as baby makers at which time the become meat. Farm animals are genetic mutants that die young. (Meat chickens die of heart attacks and have deformed legs due to their giant breast meat and rapid growth. Normal chickens live 10 years, meat birds, 8 weeks before they self destruct) Read "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins for a little look behind the curtain.

Many people make the carnivore / herbivore decision for reasons other than the "ethical" choices. Some might feel that one choice or the other is healthier. Others might choose based on what they think tastes good. Others might make the choice based on culture, or availability of food, or how much money they have in their food budget.

What am I? - A one time vegetarian who now eats meat. My reason? - I eat the things that taste the best to me.

Each person is entitled to their own opinion about this. I won't call somebody names if they if they don't do what I do, and if they want to chastise me for what I do, then that's their problem.

I think people need to make the decision that is best for them and stop judging people for the decisions they have made. I don't think vegetarians should try to convert meat eaters and meat eaters shouldn't try to reason with vegetarians. Seriously, a lot of people need to lighten up.

Animals suffer, plants do not.
Animals feel pain, plants do not.
Plants are necessary for a healthy diet, animals are not.

Need I go on?

There is no good argument for the omnivorous diet. Period.

plants can grow by the thousands and do it easily.animals can't reproduce nearly as quickly.

All food animals consume several times more grain than they produce as meat. So several times as much land is needed to grow grain to feed animals, several times as much energy is used to harvest the grain and transport it, several times as much water is necessary, several times as much pesticides, etc. Worldwide petroleum reserves would be exhausted in 11 years if the rest of the world ate like the U.S. The least energy-efficient plant food is 10 times as efficient as the most efficient meat food. A nationwide switch to a pure vegetarian diet would allow us to cut our oil imports by 60%.

Over half of the water used in the U.S. is used to grow feed for livestock. It takes 100 times as much water to produce meat than to produce wheat. The water required to produce a day's diet for a typical American is 4,000 gallons. (It's 1,200 for vegetarians and 300 for vegans.) Compared to a vegan diet, three days of a typical American diet requires as much water as you use for showering all year (assuming you shower every day).

U.S. Livestock produce 250,000 pounds of waste per second -- 20 times as much as humans. A large feedlot produces as much waste as a large city, but without a sewage system. Animal waste washed into rivers and lakes causes increased nitrates, phosphates, ammonia, and bacteria, and decreases the oxygen content. This kills plant and animal life. The meat industry account for three times as much harmful organic waste as the rest of the industries in the U.S. combined.

It takes ten times as much land to produce food for an average American compared to a pure vegetarian. An acre of land can produce 20,000 pounds of potatoes, but only 165 pounds of beef. In the U.S., 260 million acres of forest have been destroyed for use as agricultural land to support our meat diet (over 1 acre per person). Since 1967, the rate of deforestation has been one acre every five seconds. For every acre cleared for urban development, seven acres are cleared to graze animals or grow feed for them.

Around 85% of topsoil loss is directly associated with raising livestock. We have lost 75% of our topsoil. The USDA says crop productivity is down 70% as a result of topsoil loss. It takes nature 500 years to build an inch of topsoil. Vegan diets make less than 5% of the demands on the soil as meat-based diets.

your question makes no sense at all.Strip the land of it's nutrients?animal carcasses are biodegradable and break down and become part of the enviroment again.i'm not against people eating meat, but factory farming creates huge amounts of waste and the animals are given hormones, can't go out in the sun,and are confined to cages.
