Just out of curiousity, was it the PETA dvd?

I became a vegie after I saw that. I'm the only one in my family who's a vegie. They all thought I was going through a 'phase' .. then they realised I was serious. It's been 1 yr & 6 months now, and I don't think I'll go back to meat-eating any time soon!

Just take the critisism your family gives, cos you arguing with them won't make them change their mind about your decision or make them become vegies.

After a few weeks or months they'll get bored and accept it.

Patience and determination will work.

Tell them it's a personal preference, and just as they choose to eat meat, you choose not to.

Let us know how it works out,
Nemo.

I would show them how you decided to become vegetarian. Sit them down and show them the video. Then you will tell them why you do not wish to be a part of this in the world. How you want to make the world a little more peaceful and this is how you intend to help. Then they can either understand where you are coming from and respect your feelings, or they will not understand (at least you did show them how to try and understand) and not respect your feelings. Depending on how they understand your point of view, it will still be up to you to remain strong for your beliefs. Tell your mom you will help in preparing something meatless for you to eat at meals (although stores carry alot of vegetarian food now). Respect your parents and be polite, but remember that they can't make you eat anything you don't want to.

I was about 14 or 15 when I decided I would become a vegetarian however my parents were not supportive. My mother said as long as I was under her roof- I would eat the food she gave me. Unfortunately as a kid, you have to listen to your parents.

I did become a vegetarian after I moved ouf of the house. Its been 6 years.

Good luck.

i've been a vegetarian for almost 20 yrs...i was about 12 or 13 yrs old when i started...when i told my parents that i wanted to be a vegetarian they were supportive, but i could tell they didn't think i'd stick with it-so they really didn't think it was a big deal....but i'm still a vegetarian all these yrs later...
i think you might tell your parents of your intent, and why you want to do it....and maybe to make things easier on your mom, try looking up vegetarian recipes and help her cook your meals, or cook for yourself...how can your mom not take you seriously when your'e putting forth all that effort!

i have been a vegetarian for ten years, so people always ask me this question, i would tell you to talk yto your mother tell her the choice that you ar making, and by SHOWING her when dinner comes that you are not going to touch the stak or the roast, she will began to accept that you are not going to eat the meat! After a while your family will not think differnt about you and they will get to see how being a vegetarian isn't bad at all!

You don't have to announce it. Just don't eat it! Believe me, she'll take it seriously. You may have to go to the market by yourself for a little while to make sure you don't starve, that's all.
