How do you know if an egg has gone off if the use by date has rubbed off in transit?

Is it when it floats in a glass of water or when it sinks?

I've started making jello (with little slices of apple and banana.) But I put it in the fridge and I come back and there is a mess in the fridge. The first time, I just assumed that I shut the door too hard and some jeelo splashed out. It did it a gain today, when I checked the J after five minutes, so I cleaned up the mess and closed the door very gently. I can mack after a few hours to an even bigger mess.

Is something going on? Is there some sort of buble building up and releasing a tsunami in my Jello? Is there some chemical reaction with the fruit? Are the carrots doing high dives in my J?

What gives?

OK, so I just can't make up my mind, I keep going back and forth. I will be getting some Picardie glasses from Crate&Barrel and/or William-Sonoma. They both carry them, but in different sizes. Here's a link to Crate&Barrel's page where they are shown http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=150&f=13138 Now, I want to get 3 different sizes. The available sizes are 5.5oz, 7oz, 8.5oz, 10oz, 12oz, 16oz, and 17.5oz.
I know I want to get the 17.5oz, but it's for the two smaller ones that I can't decide.
Something to note is that I will occasionally be using these to drink wine, like they did in Europe in the old days (my husband and I just don't drink enough wine that it would be worth getting real wine glasses).
SO, should I get
A) 5.5oz and 10oz
B) 7oz and 10oz
C) 7oz and 12oz
D) 8.5 oz and 12oz
If you can, please tell me why you think which sizes would be be best.
Thanks!
