First of all,cakes sre so damn delicious that keeping them on hand is not the problem — keeping them around should be the problem! ;)

It may depend on the kind of cake and the type of icing on it, etc.
I always try and put remaining cake in the fridge, so it doesn't go sour.
Have you accidentally eaten sour cake before? It tastes all fermented and stuff. Yuck!!!!!

It depends on what type of cake . as the top tier of my wedding cake kept for 2 years for my daughters christening and there was nothing wrong with it at all.
