I made a jar of brownie mix as a gift last Christmas. I've made several and they come out great. This particular jar was just discovered in the back of the cabinet just now. I decided to try it rather than chuck it. The walnuts were layered on top and tasted just fine. The brown sugar layer was not quite concrete yet, but did require some chiseling. Everything else seemed OK.
I tried to dissolve the chunks of brown sugar in the eggs and vanilla, which sort of worked but I whipped them to almost a mousse consistancy while trying. Then I added everything else and tried to make sure it was mixed well. I pretty much obliterated the walnuts. When I spread the mix in the pan.....I had small hard peices of brown sugar still.
It's cooking now......any guesses? Trash or food?
