I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but I just want to make sure. How long does it stay edible? Weeks? Months? Years? I have a jar that I opened about 4 months ago and I'm wondering if it's still good.

no, peanut butter will keep for years. Just keep the cover screwed on tightly and store in a clean dry place.

Hello:

No,you don't have to refrigerate peanut butter and that is what I love about it! It is easy to spread on bread and it tastes so good and it is easy to store too,no refrigeration required! ;-)

Regular peanut butter does not need to be refrigerated; natural peanut butter does.

Refrigeration is not necessary. The sugar and salt content and the very low moisture content prevent microbiological growth in peanut butter. Over a very long time the oil can go rancid or separate which will spoil the product. (months usually)

Yes, I have always done so because of the oil content. But I found this site below which has more information.

Here are more reasons pro and con. If not natural, it can be kept at room temp. but shelf life is shortened.

I am a former chef and like you do not eat alot of it when I buy it and like the others have said "No" it does not need refrigeration, as it has not properties to make it go bad, the oil in it can go rancid over a period of years, and with the one person remarking the natural one has to be, that is because the sugars and other binders and ingredient in non natural keep it fom going bad.

I'm sure your jar is still good...it may have seperated some ( the oil) just stir it with a knife real good...then lick all the peanut butter off the knife before you try to wash it. NEVER refridgerate good peanut butter.
