Honestly, I am new at trying to become vegetarian so I don't know all the answers.

I recently got into a debate with someone hwo thinks all vegetarians are stupid. We went back and forth for a while but he had me pinned when he asked me questions I couldn;t answer:

1. If vegetarians are so healthy, why are all old people meat eaters and why you never see any old vegetarians?
2. Why are vegetarians so skinny? You never see any bodybuilding vegetarians?
3. Are there any professional athletes that are vegetarian?
4. Vegetarians suck because they are always hungry. Vegetables can not keep you full for more than 1 hour but a 20 oz steak can keep you going for at least 4-5 hours.

Please give me advice. I hate looking stupid when I KNOW for a fact I am doing the right thing.

When I let my other half carve the joint (Lamb or Beef) why do I get soooo irritated when he carves it the wrong way?
i.e. against the 'grain' so to speak. Am I being too picky?

Talk about conflicts of interest here. I'm pro-choice (and actually having an abortion in 2004), and I have been thinking of converting into a healthy vegan lifestyle (considering most of my current diet is gf/cf and seafood free). I don't know if you can be both an animal activist and yet a pro-choice activist at the same time, and I was curious as to if you can, and if there are people out there who are both vegan and pro-choice. Thanks!

and I was going to do (as promised, they will be expecting this) a garlicky - mixed wild mushrooms in a cream sauce in flaky pastry served with a warm spinach and courgette salad and garlic bread.
Please note they are Vegetarian NOT vegan, and they have no allergies so what should I do for a starter?
I have tons of tomatoes in my greenhouse still, i could make a fresh tomato and basil soup perhaps,
or an egg mayonnaise - would that be too heavy?

Particularly Paula Deen and Sandra Lee. I always wondered if they really cook out of their homes. If they do, how do they set that up? Where do they live?

Im planning on forming the crust around the edges (and on top)...and cutting the apples a lot smaller so that they don't need as much time to cook (and of course cuz it'll be awkward having one cupcake filled with only 2 or 3 whole slices). I just want it to be cobbler....but EASILY served cobbler. My bf is taking it to work so Im trying to do something different. I was going to make them in the cupcake form (with the little paper cupcake holders around it) and then maybe decorate with fall leaves on top made from the crust.

Has anyone done this? Anyone able to think ahead and tell me what will go wrong....or the best crust to use? lol. Thank you.

I've definitely noticed that Pringles and Little Debbie Snack Cakes are considerably smaller than when I was younger.

We went apple picking this weekend.... and while we all like apples to snack on, there's a limit to how many we can eat before they start going bad on us. I made an apple pie last night and we'll make shrunken heads for Halloween this weekend.

Does anyone have any recipes that use apples other than apple pie?

Ok, vegan websites all over the internet claim that it takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef. They do not cite any sources for the information.

I wonder if the have done the math? I have ; )

A angus heffer that yields 1000 pounds of beef would take 2.5 million gallons of water according to these websites.

Yeah, I know that sounds pretty unreal doesnt it!

Credible sources like the "University of Arkansas" say it only takes 450 gallons

But wait, there is more. The water that does go into the cow does not vanish, eventually it evaporates and falls as rain. If the water vanished, then the earth would have no water by now lol

Who else can't wait for Thanksgiving dinner? It's my favorite dinner of the year!

What is your favorite part of the meal? ( stuffing here!)

Does you family serve any non tradititonal foods? ( not really but my brother started making pecan bourbon sweet potatoes a few years ago that actually made me start liking sweet potatoes!)

My dad loves his beer, the real stuff. None of that bud-light crap (no offense to those who like it lol) He loves Sam Adams Oktoberfest, and really dark stout beers.

Im goin up to see my parents soon and want to bring him a pack of something he'll really enjoy. What do you suggest?

This is just a poll.. no need for evil comments or bickering.

If you are a vegetarian who used to eat meat, what was your favorite meat? Which meat/dish was the hardest for you to give up?

If you're a meat eater you can answer with what meat/dish would be the hardest to give up if you were to go veggie..

But state whether you are actually a vegetarian or not.

I'll start off by saying Fish was my favorite meat. Especially a tuna sandwich made with LOTS of Miracle Whip (The way mom used to make them for me). Sometimes I still miss it.. But when I really miss it, I get veggie hot dogs, mash them up, mix lots of miracle whip in it, and make a sandwich out of that. YUM!!

Let's do a best of of the most ridiculous comments/questions you ever got for being veggie or vegan. Nothing nasty, just for fun ;-)

I once got "you kill children". I still don't know how or why, but apparently, to this woman walking past or pro-veggie stall, this was true of all vegetarians.

Well actually, I left a Pasty out, but you might not know what they are, they are basically the same as Steak pie's but look a bit different... only meat inside them is steak.

I left it out overnight, in a cool even slightly cold room, kept in a plastic bag.

Is it ok to eat?
