Steamed tamales for a L O N G time, but still kinda raw. Steamer kept collecting water. Finally threw in a towel (literally) to catch water, was that something I should've done to begin with? What did I do wrong and can it be corrected? Help.

I need some tips. After having cooked on a gas stove all my life, I am now trying to adjust to an electric one. For example, when bringing something to a boil, then simmer on low or medium, the liquid keeps up a roiling boil. I am having trouble adjusting. Anyone here with some good ideas...?

I'm looking for foods that will last long and don't need any heat to eat. I've come up with a small list:
-Tuna
-Power/granola bars
-Maybe nuts (salt might make me too thirsty)
-Candy Bars
What else?

Things I think I should avoid:
-Salty crackers (b/c they'll make me too thirsty)
Basically, anything with salt?

n/e body kno of a good website that lists things needed in an emergency?

I went to New Jersey to visit relatives. And we went out for lunch. The waitress asked us what we wanted to drink. I said "What kind of pop do you have?" and she's like "huh?" And I said "Do you have pop?" And she said "OHHHHHHHH you must be from Buffalo!" and I said "Yeah" And she said "Well here in New Jersey we call soft drinks soda."
So In different parts of the USA people use different words to mean soft drinks? Is it only Buffalo who says pop? And others say soda? I'm confused!
When you answer my question along with your answer tell my what you call soft drinks and where you are from.

Thanks!

I have heard that they are actually animal rather than vegetable but I feel that so long as they don't have a face, they're okay to eat.

My second question is, has anyone ever seen a face on a mushroom?

I'm aware that alcohol dehydrates you, and when you are hydrated your urine should be closer to clear. Dehydrated should make it yellow, how come alcohol is different

I've run out of my unsweetened (baking) chocolate supplies. So, does anyone know if someone ships Baker's or Nestle unsweetened chocolate to Europe? And at a reasonable price - a 50 dollar surcharge per shipping is a bit too much...
