Friends - January 2007

My husband and I live in Arkansas. The only family we have here
is my husband's cousin and her husband. We just relocated, so we haven't had the opprotunity to make any friends here, yet.
My husband and I have 2 toddlers. I stay home and watch them.
My husband and I haven't had any time without them to go out
together, as a couple without the children, since the first one was born, almost 3 years ago.
My husband cousin has offered, several times, to watch our children, when we needed her to. However, every time we ask,
she always has something else to do. This Saturday night, my husband has an important awards thing for work. He's getting an award. The ceremony is to be held at a local hotel. Dinner. Awards. Dancing. Attendence is mandatory for all employees.
No show = no job. No children allowed.
We asked my husband's cousin to watch our children. She said she would. Today, she calls. Says she can't. Her husband has a
meeting. (He doesn't we called & checked. )

My roommate is a party goer. She likes to get drunk and party all the time at her friends houses'. She's already asked me twice if I would like to hang with her and both times I've had an excuse not to go with her (like study, which is true). I'm a private person, who likes just chillin in my dorm looking at TV, studying, or surfing the net. I'm more of a movie/bowling/playing pool type of person. I am the complete opposite of her. I'm too shy to tell her the truth because I think she will call me a loser or party pooper. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Any advice?

Ok so at the beginning of the year, my then best friend and I decided to do the Science Fair project together. We got in this big fight and we don't talk now. I'm kinda worried that this will ruin our project and possibly our grade because we've been so focused on ignoring each other. There's no way to get out of the project now, the fair's next week. I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions on anything I can do so that our grade won't go down because of our fight. I am NOT planning on making peace with her for various reasons. I just need to be able to not want to punch her during the fair...Help anyone?

I am a law student. One of my “friends” is quite possibly one of the most self-absorbed people I have ever met. She always manages to interject herself into every conversation – if something happened to you, it happened to her and it was worse. She constantly manages to mention something about herself in every conversation in order to brag or gloat. (e.g. I interviewed there, I got into an accident like that, I am a TA, blah, blah). On top of this, she talks WAY too much. She is constantly talking to me during class and when I am trying to do work. It is very obnoxious and has denigrated to the point where I cannot stand being in her presence. The problem is that I share all of my classes with her and sit next to her. Is there a way to tell her that her disturbing self-absorption, selfishness and narcissism is driving me insane and that she talks too much? It might not be quite so bad but for the fact that she really does not have it going on like that and is rather gauche and trashy..

I am really good friends with my ex. we have always been really good friends. He is going through a rough time and my husband doesn't like the fact that I talk to my ex's. I want to be there for my friend but I don't want to upset my husband. i just met one of my sisters friends, that works at blockbuster, a few weeks ago. he's good friends with my sister and seems to be an alright guy. he came over to my cousins house, where i was visiting with my 2 lil' ones. he borrowed a movie that i rented from the place he works. here's the thing, he told my cousin he was borrowing it, not me. when i noticed that it had been missing for a few days i asked my cousin about it. i told my cousin to call the guy and ask him about it. he told both of us that it was okay..that he had already turned it in. about and hour after that i recieved a call that said they were going to bill me the full price of the movie because it was a week overdue. i have smoke coming out of my ears!!! this guy is on myspace, but i never really talk to him. also, i live in texas and he's in oklahoma. i dont know how to talk to him about this. i'm mad and i think he should pay this! any advice is appreciated.

I have a friend who stopped speaking with me because she, obviously, is very upset about something that happened between us. Without being really specific, I really feel as if I handled the situation the best I could and it is her who has messed things up, but she doesn't see it that way. ok so heres the problem. I liked this girl and we hung out together with my friend, it is so obvious that she likes my friend and it really hurts me. my friend wanted to go to a strip club near us for their amateur night. she said she wanted money, she has enough money and a job so its not like shes starving to pay the bills or anything. anyways, we were talking last night about it, and i ended up getting a little mad and told her that it was tacky and a poor way to show off her intelligence. especially because shes taken many womens studies and women in power classes. i told her that stripping would be a bad way to show appreciation for all the women who have tried so hard to further women in society.
one of my friends said that she shouldnt do it, but said i was being too harsh and critical.
i need more opinions....im confused now if i was right for expressing my beliefs, or wrong in that i was being too critical?

We have been besties since we were 2. I was having problems where we were living and was a bit scared for my life so I moved away to another place, she was one of the few people who knew where.
We havent spoken for about 6 months. I tried calling her but she is really angry at me saying I didnt tell her I was leaving, but I did.
I feel like i have done the right thing in trying to contact her, but she is being so hard. Should I just let it go, or keep trying to patch up the friendship

When I talk to peopel I tend to talk about everything, personal stuff, really anything that goes through my mind. I don't ever stop and think how that person might percieve me after I talk so much. Or I talk about my relationship liek evryday things you know what I did or replay a situation/moment and retell the story almost word for word...why is that? Why am I so careless about my personal information...like today I told someone that I thought about stealing something for a split secong (I didn't do it!!!!!) but it crossed my mind (I am sure I am not alone) anyway later I felt bad, like humm that person might think I am a bad person because of that!!! Now I am sitting here & it's getting on my nerves that I sadi that, help me get over it lol! & Please no rude answers!

Do I talk to her about being home and what she misses or should I talk about different topics to get her mind off of it. He is 19 and has been smoking it for a year now, but it is increasing, he gets high every night for 5-6 hours (or 2-3 joints). He is failing at college, were in the same class and he is missing loads of lessons. He told me a while ago he thinks he's addicted, and loads of times hes made resolutions to stop and hasnt. I dont want to sound hypocritical cause i smoke with him sometimes too, but im getting the best grades in the class. Im scared hes going to mess up his future. How can i help him? He is getting more withdrawn and moody, and i miss the happy funny person he used to be. He seems so sad all the time, and we dont talk as much as we used to.
