In today's Guardian (UK) newspaper:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2088783,00.html

'The US has rejected any prospect of a deal on climate change at the G8 summit in Germany next month, according to a leaked document.'

...

'Germany's environment minister, Sigmar Gabriel, said the country was prepared to block decisions on other issues unless the US and other G8 members made concessions on the environment. "America doesn't want to commit to firm goals. We can't put the global future of our children at risk because of the narrow-mindedness of individual negotiating partners."'

What can we do? What can we lobby our representatives to do?

If you live in the US, how embarrassed are you by the presence of a moron in the whitehouse who's brain has been addled by too much oil money?

It damages the earth more going to our holiday's than actually staying in the place where we are. For example say you go to Spain. It would of polluted the Earth more getting their than what it did staying in the couuntry.

No one can prove if it's are thought though since we have only been measuring the weather for around 200 years. If we saw data from 1500 or whatever and then looked at the tempreture was rising then we would know. You know what could people back then do to pollute the earth. Drive their 4x4's.

Is being "Green" a plus or minus that you use to choose products from a not otherwise environmental company? I am seeing a lot more companies go green and I am not sure if it is a marketing tool or they are really turning a new leaf. Pun intented...

"In my opinion she did more to kill more African children than anybody I know," Dr. Coburn said of the woman best known for writing "Silent Spring."

"The fact is the result of that was tremendously negative for 750,000 African babies and kids a year, and another 500,000 pregnant women," he said.

According to a Coburn fact sheet, mosquito bites lead to 500 million cases of malaria a year with up to 2 million of those fatal.

"The majority of deaths are in tiny children and pregnant moms in Africa,"

what can possibly happen if global warming gets very serious? because i was reading this story in class. it was about a girl who was like us. and when she had grand children, they had to wear protective gear such as goggles, suits, gloves, ect just to protect themself from the everyday sun. i thought that sounded very misserable and i was just wondering if it is possible that it could be like that or somewhat like that for my grandchilidren.

It seems to me that Global Warming has gone past a novel scientific theory by rational people looking to address a potential problem to an all out religion. I'm not saying that is does not exist, or that people aren't effecting climate, moreover that we just don't know what the heck is going on and we had better learn a little bit more before making drastic, invasive changes in governmental and personal policy. Having said that, here are the similarities to Religion as I see them:
1. Blind faith - if you don't accept Al Gore's version of the truth, you are a denyer.
2. Sin and Redemption - We are all sinners, we drive cars run on fossil fuels, have light bulbs that aren't CFL, etc. But, if one will "tithe" to the government (in the form of higher taxes and more gov control), one will be saved and born again.

The whole thing works by guilt. At the end of it all, you are so implanted by guilt, you are willing to give up liberty, agree to higher taxes and more gov control to be saved

Sounds about right!
I'd like her to show one single credible scientific source that shows how many kilotons of CO2 removal will cool the earth over a given timeframe.
There is none.

How many of us on here would participate in the World Naked Bike Ride protest that is taking place on June 9th? It has been running for the last 5 years now as a means of promoting sustainable green living, protesting against the burning of fossil fuels and address the societal hangups people have over simple, non-sexual nudity. This is a clothes-optional event, and their website is: http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org

Hey, skeptics. Before you post, think of the best argument you have for why humans aren't causing global warming. Then look it up here: http://gristmill.grist.org/skeptics.

You'll find that most anti-global warming arguments are based on simple logical fallacies like cherry-picking and attacking straw men. There's also a lot of manipulation of data and simple confusion of scientific findings.

If you're still skeptical, tell me why you're right and thousands of trained climate scientists are wrong. And remember, "scientists" who accept oil and gas company money and don't submit their findings to peer-reviewed journals aren't real scientists.

In California, we have one nuclear reactor, on half the time. We still have coal burning power plants. How many tens of thousands of kids and adults have to get asthma before CLEAN nuclear power is established? Florida has 5, their rates are 1/4 of California. Even tiny Switzerland has 5.

Its way too complex to make oil from alcohol but it is quite simple to directly transform anything containing carbon into just by applying good engineering so why is this process not being developed? It make no sense from a perspective of good engineering to make ethanol for use as fuel and very little sense to make methanol for this purpose.

Before you answer, read the following and know it to be factual. You can look it up.

1. At the peak of the last glacial cycle, giant ice sheets a mile thick covered half of North America.
2. Cars did not exist 20,000 years ago. Fire was a relatively new thing.
3. Ergo, human activity did NOT cause the ICE AGE nor the melting of the ice after the ICE AGE.
4. Re-read point #1. Key words "mile thick".
