Trader Joes and Whole Foods have great bags and they are really cheap...$1-$3. They hold a lot too

I know you requested sites for tote bags which are great... no doubt... But... something else to mildly consider as a passing thought perhaps.... I found some handy mesh bags at my local dollar store. I use them for my groceries... they are sturdy and really handy because they have a draw string so items don't tumble out into the vehicle... (had an orange turn green under the car seat some years ago and since then...well let's say I'm glad I have the bags with the drawstrings.) I did buy a denim tote for canned goods because it easily slips over my shoulder... it replaces 4 plastic bags for my purchases. Good luck with finding totes to your liking! Would you consider sewing them yourself??? Sorry that I didn't help...just wanted to provide other thoughts on this topic. Good day!

I found them in Super Fresh, very sturdy with double handles (made with the same material used for large dog leashes) on each bag for .99 cents, designed by Elizabeth Hurley. They are the same size as the brown paper grocery bag and will hold quite a bit of weight. The bag itself has a heavy plastic coating over stitched canvas and runs through the entire bag, not just the edges.

Just remember not to purchase bags that are too large because they might be to heavy to carry.

You can search for bags on my favorite shopping site:

Make sure you check all the various places and prices before you make your purchase.

However, my favorite canvas bags are made in Maine from recycled sails. While they are a bit pricey, they are beautifully made with rope handles and come in a variety of sizes:

If there is a Trader Joe's in your area, they sell great bags for very little money!!!

Thrift store are excellent sources of these bags. You may consider a sturdy basket, which can also be found in thrift stores. I you sew you can make your own from old jeans or denim skirts which you can also find in thrift stores or garage sales.if you don't have your own to recycle. For skirts, sew up the bottom, and thread a rope through the top loops. For jeans, cut of the legs, and sew up the bottoms.

If you live in Canada, go to Fields, they have them for $1.00 a piece. Also Overwaite has them. They are quite large, and you can carry a lot in them. They are very sturdy.

I bought mine at Trader Joe's. Also, many Trader Joes stores will give you a raffle ticket when you bring in your own bag.
