I am with you Mark H, Global warming is a natural cycle of the environment. Mans impact is minimal as far as a cause. and Mans impact in stopping it will be insignificant as an overstatement.

I wonder what would happen if we did stop a natural environmental event that is a necessary part of the cycle of nature?

Even though we can't and shouldn't its a good hypothetical.

Not to say we shouldn't be aware of our abuses of the environment and do something to change our habits because it is the right thing to do.

But stopping a Global Cyclical, Natural event please we are like ants trying to move a car.

Just Saying

Try to think how much affect that you will have to slow down Global warming.
What different now than it was 10 years ago is:
The facts are. China can will be adding a lot to Global warming.
A larger population will be adding a lot of Global warming.
Russia might be using a lot more gas adding a lot to Global warming.
This affect alone of the 3 items listed above that will add to Global warming is staggering.
Plus add to the fact that beginning of Global warming cycle has already began. Meaning that I think it would be easier to prevent now than after it gets real bad. So I think were are just playing with or earth and not serious about this at all.
To try and slow down global warming you might have to do something really big to even make noticeable difference

Oh look - Philip F has copied a list of names from the Oregon Petition - one of the most discredited documents you could hope to come across. Just Google 'Oregon Petition', pick a result at random and see how reliable a document it really is. The man behind the Oregon Petition is Prof Frederick Seitz (Google him as well), the person empolyed by R J Reynolds Tobacco to counter claims that smoking harms health. He's no longer involved with the tobacco industry, today his interests lie in - you guessed it, the oil industry. By the way, are the Spice Girls climatlogists because you'll find their names on the Oregon Petition (3 times in the case of Geri Halliwell).

Anyway, turning to your question...

There are several schemes under development that if implemented on a large enough scale will not only stop global warming from getting worse but will reverse the warming trend as well. Such schemes are generically referred to as Geoengineering and some of them work on extremely simple principles which we know work, they just need to be implemented on a large scale.

If the powers that be were willing to commit themselves it is perfectly feasible that in a few years time we could have systems in place that would enable us to continue living just as we are now but not have to worry about global warming.

E-mail me if you want more info, I've studied 9 such schemes, 2 in particular.

Maybe it can be stopped, maybe it can't! Maybe all we can do is slow the progress of it so it doesn't effect us as fast. But I think the question really is, wheather we can or can't, do you want to just sit there and try? It's like sitting on a railroad and seeing the train come, but not moving cause the you will never EVER be able to stop the train before it hits you.

First of all, that's not even a question.

Secondly your statement is totally incorrect and simply ignorant.

Please do some research before making such ridiculously bogus claims.

But they're at least making an attempt and making an attempt is greater than not making one at all.
