Every year, the world uses one cubic mile of oil. To replace this fuel source you would need to:
Build 104 coal-fired power stations every year for 50 years,or
Build 4 Three Gorges dams every year for 50 yrs, or
Build 52 Nuclear power plants every year for 50 yrs,(not possible as there is already a Uranium shortage),or
Build and install 32,850 wind turbines every year for 50 yrs, or
Build and install 91,250,000 Solar panels every year for 50 yrs.
All to replace one years oil supply!
With eminent sceintists like Dr. Bently from the University of Reading study group telling us oil will start declining from around 2012-20, what are we going to do? Why isn't the Government talking about this instead of Global Warming? Shouldn't we be gettting busy doing something about it now? What will happen when farmland that is only useful with oil-based fertilisers can't be used to grow food anymore?

If it's about saving energy, no matter what time you go in the lights are on at the office/place of employment for the same amount of time. If it is to benefit farmers, how about just getting up a little later/earlier. I never really understood the logic.

I would very much like to cut down on my consumption of red meat. I'm interested in adding more fish to my diet, but my boyfriend and I are concerned about the levels of heavy metals in fish. How can I minimize the incidence of heavy metal in the fish that I buy? What should I do to make sure that the fish I eat will be good for me? Are there specific places in the world from where the fish is more "pure" than other places? What types of fish are usually affected most by heavy metals in the environment? Is there a chart or graph somewhere online that I could look up?

One day fossil fuels will run out. Many think the answer is alternative energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels. But a recent TV programme claimed that Africa was being forced to live in poverty and squalor because they were being encouraged to use renewable energy sources instead. If they can't develop with alternative energy sources, what makes us think we can maintain our present level of consumption when fossil fuels run out?

What if you're wrong?. We're talking about the future habitability of this planet, what if you're wrong?. Should we take that chance?
or maybe we should be asking the children this question since it's
they who are going to be most affected by this.

for a small return. And that years down the line we will find them lying idol and will become a blot on the lanscape. Whereas if new builds (houses) had solar panels included into the structure this would be a more energy efficient way of producing the heating needs for individuals instead of lining the pockets of the the Big energy producing giants.

What is your own opinion? Do not be swayed by the majority..your own views please.
