Ok the earth is warming and the climate is changing. Why does a) it need to be considered catastrophic, and b) it have to be true that humans are THE cause. We never ever hear about the good things that will come from global warming...why is that? will there be absolutely no benefits? Think for yourself and see if the scare tactics about global warming really make it worth getting to worried about.

Global warming would be present without our existance. WTF Its part of nature. In another 1000 years maybe we will find out that global warming is helping us and part of natures way of renewing or balacing our atmosphere. When cows fart they emmit greenhouse gases. How can we stop that.

Plastic materials do not breakdown and decay. They are made of inorganic materials which increases their ecological persistence tremendously. The plague of non-disposed plastic materials is being felt worldwide with wind blown litter from plastic shopping bags being the most widespread - every country in the world is familiar with this problem. And because of their thinness, these bags break down quickly but only to the molecular level and no further. And this is where the real problem starts - when these inorganic molecules build up in the sea, they affect the planetary food chain. In some places, including off the coast of California, the level of inorganic plastic molecular material has been measured at up to 6 times the level of plankton in the same test area. That is incredible, and unacceptable. We need to take immediate action to reduce the use of plastic bags world wide. You can start by reusing your plastic bags more than once and teaching your children to do the same.

This question is in response to Leonardo DiCaprio's article on ''Global Warming''. The guy is throwing out Facts Like '' Homes consume 40% of the earths resources'' and stuff like that, don't get me wrong, I care about the enviornment! but check this fact out Mr. DiCaprio, The average middle class home consumes about less than 5% of a cities resources, The ''average'' 2.5 Million dollar home cosumes over 13% of a cities resources, Gas 6%, Electricity 2%, Water,5%... So uh, yeah...

As a scientist I have spent more than 3 decades investigating predictions of global warming (and, just a few decades ago, promises of global cooling). The fact is that, given the tiny amount of data available (an infinitesimal portion of the earth's history), there is no way that anyone can predict global warming or cooling at this time. We can only predict that there will be some periods of warming and some of cooling. That may not satisfy the alarmists but it is all we can say, with any confidence, about future global weather.

Our gene pool is getting worse, we have ignorant celebrities informing the stupid, plus people are living that in a survival of the fittest world would not be. The week and the sick are thriving and killing off the strong and intelligent. The same has happened with the animal kingdam becuase of hunting. hunters seek out the trophy animals leaving behind the weeker and romoving the strong from the gene pool. This has led to chronic wasting disease amungst the deer population and numerous problems with other speicies. In natural selection the sick and week are removed from the gene pool, except for humans all other hunting animals follow this. Advances in medical technology have kept the sick and week alive and allowed them to reproduce thus entering infeior genetics to the human race. The compassion for the present has greatly hurt the the future of mankind. So now what is more compassionate thinking long term to allow man to thrive or thinking short term for selfish reasons?

Rather than arguing about the actual state of the environment, wouldn’t it just be better to say that no matter what your political preference, energy independence would be a good thing if it can be achieved in a cost effective manner?
Wouldn’t it be better if you could buy your energy production rather than rent it?
The key to bringing renewable energy to suburban America is to communicate the concept of how progressive technology combined with innovative architectural design can provide a lower monthly cost of ownership. For example, most people finance their home through a mortgage. If you design a house that will reduce your monthly utility bills by $150 while only increasing your monthly mortgage payment by $50 dollars, you will save money from the day you move in, although your home actually costs more. It’s all about combining the best design practices with sound financial strategies. Check out zeroenergy.com

Leo should not be talking about conservation. If I recall, the last thing I saw about him on TV was him hopping into a suburban and driving off from a night club. He does not seem much better then if Arnold was preaching the enviromental cause from his Hummer.

Bascially, an Ed Begley jr, he is not.

Any help is still help, but Leo doing this, is there a movie coming out soon on the day the ozone layer blew out and the polar caps melted starring this guy!

I asked this question over in "Cars and Transportation" and was told (I quote), "PUT DOWN THE HASH PIPE DUDE!!!"

So I thought I'd ask again over here where I might get more constructive answers:

When I lived in Europe, I didn't need a car much because I could get most everywhere, from the next town over, to the other side of the continent, by train.

Since returning home, I've been frustrated by the lack of rail service. It seems everywhere I look, they are tearing up train tracks. And yet everyone is bemoaning our reliance on the automobile and what it is doing to our environment. I would take the train, if there were trains to take.

Does anyone know of an organization that encourages passenger rail, inter-city trains, things like that?

What will it take to get Hollywood actors to quit asking on how to solve mythical problems like global warming and concern themselves with real problems like poverty. I see them waste millions of dollrs on television everyday. Lavish parties with million dollar clothes and million dollar jewelry and thousand dollar meals while some eat from trash cans or people who work 12 hour days just to make sure bills are paid. End the silliness please.
