Apparantly if they don't stop and give the fish a chance to recover we will have no fish in the foreseeable future. I wonder if nations can forget profits and greed for a while and think of future generations.

I have read that it has been estimated that 100 billion or so humans have ever lived on the planet. If we assumed that humans didn't die or that they had unconceivably long lifespans, would the planet be able to support us? Would we have exhausted all natural resources? Would there be enough space for all of us?

Description
Former Vice President Al Gore presents this compelling documentary about the detrimental effects that we are having on the planet and the need for a worldwide change. If you believed them when they said global warming was a myth, this film dispels that notion with many independent pieces of evidence. More importantly, this film not only shares what causes global warming, but what the effects are going to be, from the flooding of coastlines displacing millions of people from their homes, to the complete extinction of entire species of animals. This is not a film about left or right, this is a film about humanity and how we need to preserve the earth and its resources before it is too late. "You owe it to yourself to see this film, if you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to." - Roger Ebert

In other words how long can the earth support our way of life? WIll there be a time when there are too many inhabitants for the amount of resource? I include food and fresh water in this question.

Is there a point of no return and if so how long have we got?

A bit of a tounge in cheek question, but with a semi serious undertone.
If most waste went into landfill, then in so many hundred years or so when such materials became so rare and processes to deal with this matter more efficient (say using solar power) I wonder if future generations would be delighted by our foresight that we had saved this glass etc for them to recycle and be thrilled to discover this treasure trove of raw material in the ground!

I've read articles lately detailing NASA having a stockpile of 200-500 POUNDS of anti-matter and temperatures in particle accelerators reaching 1.7 billion degrees. Would it not take just one minor power glitch in a containment field to vaporize or blow up a large chunk of what we know as earth?

I believe money has been too powerful throughout history. Money and the nature of greed does that to humans. We've 'evolved' so much that we are destroying Planet Earth. It is quite evident in the climate change, overfishing, pollution, wildlife destruction, etc.. that it is difficult to see Earth and humans lasting any longer.

I don't think there are going to any drastic changes anytime soon.

What's your opinions on this?
