If as we are told by seemingly everyone these days that the world is warming up and the ice caps are melting, why do the bearded tree huggy types allow the great estuaries to be converted to dams to generate HEP.
They say that the water fowl will loose thier habitats if dams are built, but surely common sense allows that if the polar ice caps are melting, then the sea levels will rise and the mud will disappear, the mud will go one way or the other.
HEP is clean energy, the tides turn twice a day giving a guaranteed 4 cycles in 24 hours, unlike wind farms that only operate when there is wind!

They both take a lot of energy even in energy save mode; especially the monitor. Shut them off to extend the life of your machines AND to save energy.

I was cooking my beans on the hob this evening and, on my mission to
be greener in everything I do, wondered if it was greener to cook them
on the hob or in a microwave. On the one hand, microwaves are a big
waste of plastic / metal etc and are difficult to recycle, on the
other hand, it takes a lot of energy to warm up my cooker hob and
therefore contributes to Co2 emissions. What's the right thing to do?

I am on a personal mission to become a whole lot friendlier to my enironment. I'm fed up of living in chronic air polution 'smog' and seeing streams in the forest that look like bubble baths because of people using too many products. That's just the tip of the (melting) iceburg, but if anyone has any tips on how I can do it, I would be really greatful! I already recycle, walk where possable and take public transport everywhere. I buy local produce from the farmers markets too (yummy and good for the local econemy!)

Thanks people!

The fight is currently weighted in favour of capitalism. There is no really powerful world wide body to manage & restrict certain hamful activities adding to greenhouse gases. There is no positive work being carried out to reverse the effect other than stop emmission levels which add to green house gases

Do you find it normal to get rid of outgrown clothes in the garbage? In general do you throw away outgrown or old clothing in the garbage? Obviously donating is preferred, but how about socks, underwear or things like sportswear?

A island off the west coast of Africa has been determined to possibly erupt and drop a huge chunk of land into the Atlantic ocean. It will cause a tsunami and I want to know how long it will take to travel to the US. Maybe just the average speed of tsunami.
