Do you find it normal to get rid of outgrown clothes in the garbage? In general do you throw away outgrown or old clothing in the garbage? Obviously donating is preferred, but how about socks, underwear or things like sportswear?

I would rather donate my old clothing rather than throwing them in the garbage - including sportswear, socks and underwear. Why throw them in the garbage when other people i.e. poor children can wear them? I would, however, wash them first before donating.

Clothes shoes sheets towels (Clean and untorn) are always appreciated in the charity shops. Underwear socks are actually also excepted but usually just not donated.
don't throw them in the garbage some one else could make use of them and failing that they just add to the ever increasing amounts of garage that this world is creating

Interesting question.
I have heard in places people put items they do not have use for any more on the sidewalks, and people who need them pick them up and use them.
I see it is starting to happen in more places as well, and i think it is good.
Might be a good idea to have specific places where such items can be placed as donation for those who need them, similar to flea markets, but at no charge...
Would people spoil it though and take more than they need, or grab for resale again ?

They find there way there (to the garbage bin) only after I have used them as rags for cleaning. I cant think of any clothing I have had that would be donateable after I and my kids have finished with them....too old fashioned, wornout, misshapen, torn and grubby!

Burn them or do the nerdy, housewife stuff. recycle the clothes or donate them. use them as rags, shred them to tiny bits and put them inside a piloow case. weave potholders. be creative. whatever. did you know that tribes in Africa dont wear clothes at all?

As far as am concerned, you do not, not, donate underwear. You do not donate socks or sportswear, that's just gross. I donate my clothes that are too small on me, but donating underclothes is just nasty.

Nah. Place old clothes in recycling bins. If they are not in good condition, they will be shredded and used in industry.
