What are some of the ways that I could teach children how to notice patterns in words. For example, i could teach them that if they know the word cat they could also know the words mat, sat, fat, and rat along with other rhyming words.
Do you have anymore examples to share?

Do you know any good teacher's guides? and where can I get them? Also, she has problem pronouncing S, Sh, Ch - she sticks her tounge inbetween her teeth - will it pass or should I start worrying and get her to a speech pathologist?
Thank you

I am to start teaching in a 6th grade class this Tuesday in an urban setting. I have never taught outside of my field work and student teaching before this and I am not even sure what to bring with me on the 1st day I am there. The students will have been there a week, so I am coming in after school already started for them. I do not know what is being taught by the other teachers. They have 6 groups of 4-5 teachers that stay with the kids for 3 years until high school. Usually the teachers get together and set curriculum and I am hoping it is in place to make it easier on me. Still the 1st day I am not sure what to bring other than a notebook and something to write with. Should I bring all my stuff for my desk as well? I don't even know what I am asking really other than does anyone have any ideas on how I should approach this. Mind you, it is an urban setting and I am a white guy. Not that it matters to me, but it may to some of them! Any advice would be more than welcome!

Thank you for all your hard work, because it totally pays off for us. Yall just don't know, but yall are a major influence in our lives, and some of the things we do or say, is stuff that we learned from you. I know that some teachers are mean, and I don't blame them..especially the ones that teach high school, having to put up with all the a$$ holes. The meaness that you give off actually disciplines us, and makes us work harder. Some teachers are actually like buddies to me, because I can talk to them about anything, and they have really saved my butt from alot of things that could have gotten me in trouble. They have taken up for me in many situations and I appreciate that. I just want to thank yall for all the hard work yall do, I know it's not teacher appreciation week, but I just had that on my mind.

I am a second grade teacher. I plan well and am always prepared. I am well respected and my students are well behaved. The problem is that I am suffering acutely from depression, and I feel that I have to "tap-dance" all day long. By 3:30 I am exhausted. I don't even know if I really like what I do.
Does any other teacher out there know what I mean. This is my third year. When does it get easier?

When something is worded in plain English, punctuated and logically written it should be understandable, yet I've seen numberous examples of people not being able to understand questions. It's not the way the question is put, since most people will answer the questions but a few seem unable to understand what is asked or even be able to tell that it is a question, which is very, very weird. Is this some form of illiteracy?

I have a "special relationship" with my teacher, who's 7 years older than me. She was my biology teacher in second year, then we formed some special bonding. We would go out regularly, and would have a fun time. Until, we did have sex. We still go out, now that I'm in my Senior year in HS and she's still a teacher in the High School Department. Problem is, I really don't know what's going to happen between us. She's engaged to somebody. But still, we hold hands, kiss, and would do sensual things. One thing that confuses me more is that we're not really in love, but why are we doing these things? Why would she still be with her fiance even though she spends a lot of time with me? And what is her REAL feeling towards me? Help!

school just started a few days ago, and i didn't get last nights homework done (but i tried...i spent an hour on 4 questions alone, but still couldn't understand it)...and when she saw that i didn't finish it today, she said: "first major assignment and you blow it off"...then when i tried explaining to her why i didnt get it done, she said: "no excuses." ...well, i didn't "blow off" my work. i ALWAYS try, and i don't give up very easily. and, i DO kind of have a life outside of school, ya know. homework is not my life...and my life is not perfect. i'm just having a little bit of trouble doing 4 hours of homework a night when i'm still trying to cope with the death of my dad. but no, my teacher would never consider that...i've got no pain or stress in my life and all the time for four hours of homework a night...she's to busy making assumptions and judgements about me to consider the truth. please help me, i dunno what to do...

I need a little laugh today. We're only two weeks into the school year......I've always loved my job, but this year is more difficult than other recent years.

The craziest thing that happened to me today is......one of my students stepped on my foot, turned around, and accused me of tripping HIM! I couldn't believe it! Needless to say, he ended up getting a check mark (for disrespectful behavior) on our discipline plan sheet.

What about you?

I was just wondering, because I have a teacher whom I look up to and respect more than anyone in the world. But I'm unsure if she can tell this, or if she just thinks of me as another student.

I figure she must at least think I have some good writing skills, because she made me editor of the school paper and when ever there is question in class that no one can get she'll ask me, and I'll get it right. Do you think that she can tell how much I admire her?
