I have a guitar, and I'm eager to teach myself. I've tryed a tutor but it costs too much. I'm sure I can teach myself, but I need some tips.

Thanks in advance!

Use books or websites to learn chords and at least some music theory. Then practice, practice, practice. Listen to music (recorded or live), then practice, practice, practice. Get a few song books (or get tablature of songs you know from internet) and learn to play those songs.
After you've got a few chords down, find other players to practice with.

There are plenty of resources available these days.
Don't give up so that you can laugh at people who are so enamored with the "Guitar Hero" toy. A decade from now, you'll still be playing your guitar, but their toy will be long gone along with many wasted hours.

There are any number of good instruction books that will cost you about as much as one lesson from a tutor. You can find them at music stores (not record shops). The advantage to learning through one of these do-it-yourself courses is that you learn to read music and that is a big advantage when it comes to learning new music or playing with other people.
Have fun with it!

You can start by going to local community college most of them should have a music program of some sort and that will usually include begginer guitar. It's cheap and you can learn along with other students. You might also want to purchase a begginer scale book for guitar that should give you months worth of practice material. Good Luck!

Go to a music store and buy a book for self-teaching.
