Actually, I tend to like teaching the "weird" kids more than the "typical" kids. However, as teachers we are supposed to suppress whatever tendencies and prejudices that we have and treat each student as an individual.
IN reality, there are teachers who are just a short-sighted and prejudicial as people in the general community, which is very sad.

Personally, I think it would have less to do with if they ARE that stereotype and more so if the ACT like the stereotype.
If a student dresses like a goth or emo, they don't neccisarily have to ACT the same way as someone who actually is, and not just trying to be. The teacher may have more tolerance for the first, and less for the second because the student could get on their nerves or be so into their own problems that they never do their work.
The "Popular" stereotype is another example. I've met some cheerleaders who are nice, if not exclusive because of different interests. I've met others who act nice, but are completely horrible and don't look like cheerleaders, but act like what we expect a pretty cheerleader to be.
It depends on the students attitude, from what I've seen. If the student is interested in learning, asks questons and trys, they will likely be on the teachers good side. A stdent who overacheives and is always trying to be the best and such may make the teacher happy to have a bright student. The student will probably get on their nerves because they will have to move the class along faster to keep up with the student, or the student will be slowed down. A student who could care less will be on the teachers nerves because the teacher will have to explain to the parents and school why the student isn't doing well and give them extra help, possibly goiing over review and using up time that could be used to move the class forward.
My guess is ythat teachers have predjudices, but most depend moreso on the student's attitude and less on their appearance. Mostly.

That is a question that would generalize teachers. It depends on the teacher. If he or she is a good teacher she will treat every student the same and give everyone an equal education. If she judges students based on how they dress that is wrong. It is wrong for anyone to do that.

As a High School teacher, I see many different "groups". I teach to my best ability to all my student just the same and do not judge them in my grading. But, I tend to not socialize with the goth and emo as much as I do the normal kids. I do not see why some one would want to portray themselves as these "death" looking things.

I teach elementary so most of the groups aren't real developed yet however I do view bright, but lazy kids differently. It really gripes me to see people waste their gifts. I tend to loose my patience with kids who can tune in to answer a question while they have been chatting all class period. I could really use their input if they would just shut up with their chatter and contribute their ideas in a possitive way.
I don't care what you wear, just do the work, it isn't for my benefit anyway.

I would generally be considered to be in the not so good group, and the teachers probably do realize we do some bad stuff, but all in all, as long as I do work and dont disrupt them, they're quite cool people. I dont hate any one of my teachers its pretty sweet =)

I couldn't care less about their teeny bopper fashions, except maybe to have a private laugh. Teachers like students who are smart. The rest can go sit on their thumbs!

as a teacher I will tell you what i like. i like students that observe and ask questions. i dont care what you wear, how you wear it, as long as you do your homework. if you don't get it, i want you to ask, i like persistent students. people think that when a student asks a questions they're being annoying but it's my job to make sure you get it, so who are you really hurting not letting anyone know that you dont. most teachers don't judge their students, the good ones like me, just want to make a difference.

Some do it on reasons as basic as name. Sadly, categorization varies by teacher.
Some accept all, some reject the "weirdos"
