If so what was your next career move? I am an elementary teacher and I enjoy my job but I always wonder if it is right for me. What else would/could I do??

i was studying to be a teacher, and i had a feeling i didn't want to do it anymore, and I went back to the grade I was going to teach and shadowed a few teachers in my old school district and decided it wasn't what I wanted to do.

I then thought nursing because I like helping people.

Then I decided to go with business, it's universal. My husband is a chef and is wanting to start his own business so he's going to be cooking and I'm handling the business end.

How old are you? would you feel comfortable going back to a community college and taking some more courses? is there something you've always wanted to do when you were younger that's actually realistic at this point in time? Do you have a hobby?

My cousin was a teacher, and couldn't even find a job back east, and then decided he would start being more serious with his photography, worked out well for him.

I am looking to leave, I have been since last summer and I am still looking. Hopefully by the end of the summer I will have found something else which works for me.

I want to go into public policy, or educational law because so many children are not receiving the services that are required or do not know what services are available. I would also go into advocacy, advocating for parents, or students, or advocacy and patient rights in the health field.

I still love helping people, I still love children, I just feel my skills would be better utilized outside the classroom.

Have you considered switching age/grade levels? I used to teach at the elementary school level, but found the public school system to be "too political" and it seemed to be all about attendance and funding. I now teach preschoolers and I love it! Teaching at this age level is the perfect fit for me and there is no pressure in meeting the "no child left behind" guidelines. Of course, I lost the decent benefits, but for me, my happiness was more important. Good luck to you!

GOD, I am sooo with you. I have been teaching 8 years. I have taught 3rd grade, 4th grades and 1st grade. I want to do something else, but don't know what. I am so tired of the constant pressure with test scores and all. I teach in Detroit and the kids are way below grade level.....I want desperately to switch careers, but don't know how or what. If u think of anything, let me know. I starred your question and will check back.
