Being naturally impartial.
Having the ability to wipe the slate clean each day- a child may be offensive on day and regret it the next, be able to move on and not hold grudges.
Be a positive role model- dress appropriately, and act mature and thoughtful.
Be a good listener- not only to what each child tells you verbally, how it is said, also what is not said. A child struggling with survival issues outside of school will not be able to focus on school. (He/she may not be able to learn now, but a good teacher will instill hope and the desire to learn in the future when survival needs are met.)
Be resourceful- know community programs available to help students get what they need.
Actually care about others.
A good teacher knows that it only takes one person who cares to change a life.
A good teacher knows that where there is a will there is a way and will project strength to try.

Patience, creativity, the ability to be inspiring, being an advocate for the kids, being a good speaker, passion. And really knowing your stuff helps, because kids will question you and get bored if all you do is read from the book and give them lame assignments. You also have to like kids, even when they are unruly or obnoxious.

Someone who isnt just drilling you from a textbook. I love classes where you have long discussions about the world, or teachers that inspire you. My 6th grade english teacher inspired me to write, and now I'm published at the age of 17. My 9th grade Current Events teacher talked with us about the world in long discussions and it really helped me. Those teachers that have a lasting impact on your life are the best.

A good teacher is resourceful, knowledgeable, and very creative. They also must be very patient. Also, they will be able to assess a child's needs and know how to reach that child to get them motivated and learning.
